Becoming a Marine Surveyor ? Help?

I’ve always sort of considered it and thought about doing it local to me as there aren’t many around me if any in southern Tennessee who do it. My questions are how do you or did you get started? Things I read on the internet are very vague. What is required to legally do it? I am experienced in the boat world, but always willing and want to learn more everyday. Currently own and operate a decent sized excavation business. Is this something you guys or gals do full time or as a side gig? I have many Questions! Thank you for shining any kind of light on this.

You don't need to be licensed so much as a surveyor as you need to be certified in order to obtain insurance.https://www.chapman.org/p/57

Reach out to Tommy Kimball

He's an OSO member, and he made the career switch several years ago. He's EXTREMELY busy with his business.

thanks man! I’m seriously considering making a switch but at a slow rate. Construction and excavation has blessed me in many ways at the young age I am now but it’s becoming a heck of a rat race against under cutters and such so to speak. I reckon what it comes down to is I’m slightly burnt out more than anything really and trying to get people to work is another kicker. It don’t matter how much I pay them you can’t rely on anyone. Pre-Covid I had zero trouble. I’ve always wanted to dine my “ in “ into the marine industry in some way.
