The outboards are just boring how about some fresh inboard power like mercs v12 powerhhead with a good supercharger running thru surface drives?

Sounds like a reasonable product to engineer and sell with lots of market demand. 🙄

How do clients “think they have a doug Wright on order”? Did people place orders and deposits with other dealers that are now void?

My guess, (THIS IS PURE SPECULATION) is the people may have placed an order through a dealer, that may not have placed it with Doug Wright or had actual allocation through DW. Possibly a boat that may have been based off from a DW hull???

Yes, there is alot of "may haves" in my statement. Only the people that may have (There it is again) placed an order through someone or someplace would know what boat they think they have on order. The ones taking the alleged deposit would know what boat they are selling them...

Didn't Performance Marine sell Doug Wrights? Now they are building their own? So now those are not Doug Wrights?

Who knows, not trying to criticize but the quotes in the article brought more questions than answers.

they are still doug wright boats and tagged and titled as such. think of the waves and wheels edition as a pkg, no diff than buying a badlander edition bronco, or back when Bill pyburn did the Platinum edition skaters, or a Larry Smith Scarab, just some custom features from an outside vendor.

From my understanding, PBC is not purchasing the hulls from DW (since the new owners took over DW) they are now producing their own hulls and rigging it in house.

Waves and Wheels bought the hull and are adding their own spin on to the rigging, paint etc. But the hull itself is ALL DW!

offshoredrillin 12-11-2022 09:35 AM

correct, nothing to do with pbc at all...

We are on the same page, I was more referring to the question about the statement mentioned in the article about not having a hull on order.

I would have to disagree with you on comparing the W&W DWs to the "Platinum Series" Skaters, of which some were built/rigged/completed in-house at Skater (see attached pics of the last "Platinum Series" 388 built in-house for David Branton - "Voodoo"). If you want to compare the W&W DWs to any Skater model, they are most similar to what Skater offers as a "kit boat", which is when a customer buys a boat in primer only, with no paint/interior/rigging/engines etc. All you get for a kit boat price is the completed boat with tanks, deck hatches and windshield installed. The latest example of one of these Skaters is the 388/450R rig that Steve Bareman bought as a kit boat and then did all the paint/interior/rigging himself. Steve also purchased the engines already installed through Skater - which is an option for their kit boats. Through the decades, Skater has sold many kit boats to dealers and private customers. I've owned several Skaters that started life as kit boats, there's a lot more of them out there than people know.

was in no way meant as a comparison of quality or anything thereof... more just a correlation as a person(s) other than said manufacturer or purchaser having an input in the outcome of the final product.

Skater30 12-11-2022 11:13 AM

I was only trying to point out the fact that some of the Platinum Series Skaters were completed in-house at Skater - though you can purchase a Skater kit boat (which is basically what W&W is doing with DW). I wasn't trying to compare build quality in any way. Sorry for taking this thread slightly off-topic, as I've heard good things about W&W and wish them the best in their new endeavor with DW.

DRAG 12-11-2022 11:29 AM

I'm sure there is confusion with PBC and everyone assuming they are DW hulls...because they had been for years. I'm not sure it was made clear what was going on when they transitioned to their own stuff. Who knows if that had anything to do with the Cig fiasco and what transpired after, and that may be what that comment in this article references. Clear as mud and probably none of anyone's business anyway :)
