Oil leak new build
I had a local shop do a complete rebuild on my 540 - machine work, bearings, valves, lifters, etc. you get the idea. I didn't get the boat back until late August, so only had a handful of chances to get it out and was tracking down other issues after getting the motor and rebuilt drive back in. I noticed oil in the bilge after boating, not a ton, but as it mixes with the water it just makes a mess. It appears to be hitting the drive belts and slinging in the bilge and makes it's way towards the sea pump on the starboard side.
Ultimately, it's going to need to be fixed. I'm not dealing with a nasty bilge after a fresh rebuld. My question is, what's a fair ask of the shop that did the work? I have maybe 10 hours on it since it's been back in the boat. I mentioned it to them when I was out there a couple months back and told them I'd probably run some floruscent dye through it to identify the source. Of course, he didn't jump up and offer to fix it. I'm guessing it will need to be pulled, there's very little room to work towards the front of the engine and bulkhead. Thanks |
