Water pump to stat housing hose
I just researched this site for an answer and I think I have it but want to verify before ordering.
Because of that particular post I also now have more questions. The first pic shows that someone cut the hose and extended it and Saber28 mentioned that if you don't like that look that the Tall deck Bulldog 500 uses a longer hose. I don't know if all of the Bulldog engines were tall deck so again, I want to verify before ordering. Do I need to use that smaller hose at the top of the water pump to the intake? I see some with and some without. Also I DID use a light coating of RTV for the thermostat housing to the intake and noticed on the other post that said that the gasket is used to "ground" the housing so the sending unit works. Crush washers in the gasket? Can't I just install the sending unit in one of the access holes on either side of the housing in the intake or is the the stat housing the best \ correct location? I think it was also asked why the bolts holding the housing to the intake wouldn't work for the ground. Thanks for your help. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bcb5783df.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1a94a502f7.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ffabcbb9fd.jpg |
a lot of steel and non painted hardware there for a boat man. at the very least get some good self etching primer and a can of phantom black.
stainless bolts a must as well. |
That first pic is a random from the site. Mine is the last one where the hose does not reach.

Is the only way to make this work is to cut and extend the stock hose?

Did you buy 847677 or another part number?
This thread list that part number as being the longer one. https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...-needed-2.html |
Just buy another standard hose and get a proper size hose coupling, brass or stainless,
|
GLENAMY, I saw your other post and that looks pretty good. Buying and adding the 2 together makes for a nice finished look. Not opposed to it, just want to know that a one piece hose is not available. Did you find a "barbed" fitting for that main hose? I looked at Hardin's site and only see up to 1".
|
If you missed it, that thread AllDodge linked the guy has the longer hose up against a framing square.
So get out a tape and see what distance you have from pump to thermostat housing, see if that one will suffice. If you're wanting to have a one piece setup. Part number in that thread also. |

Hardin has the one for the recirculating pump hose, it is not in the catalogue so you need to call and ask it's stainless. The one from the oil cooler I picked up on line and it is brass that one is 1-1/4" I believe. The one from Hardin I am not sure of the size you will need to measure. |
Try calling Hardin they have stuff that is not on their web, I believe that is where I got mine.
Here is a Stainless one from McMaster p/n 53605K34 There are also brass ones available. |
Slow day for me.
Google come up with easy solutions also for barbed couplings. Way cheaper than the Mcmaster and probably Hardin. Summit link If you want billet bling. ICT billet |
Fresh water or Salt?
Open or closed cooling system? Consider these factors when deciding. |
Thanks cheech. I bought a lot of stuff from Summit but for some reason, I always head to Hardin or CP for my boat stuff. I've got a few emails into Merc and If I don't get an answer on the hose, this is what I will be buying. Thanks again for the help and the link.
Do you happen to know if I need to run that bypass hose from the top of the water pump to the intake manifold? I see some with and some without. Maybe it's a "pros and cons" thing? Thanks again. |
Fresh water use and I don't have closed cooling.
|
I did look for the hose part number 32-847677A01 and it shows no longer available. I'm hoping \ thinking they have a replacement?

So Mercury got back to me in an email and also a phone call. I couldn't believe they actually called me for such a small item. Anyway, the hose is "No Longer Available" and as far as they could tell, nobody in the country has one laying around. Thanks to this site I ordered a couple of the couplers and will cut and extend what I have. Thanks to everyone for your input.

crap, wished i had bought spares now
