Why?

Mercury must have considered supercharging before settling on turbocharging...

Aye I agree, boost is boost.
Probably loose power pound for pound as then you're robbing crank power to turn the blower.

Maybe it's about the looks. :grinser010:

reason is when you go to a drag race now theres turbos vs big supercharged vs nitrous in the same class and they are pretty well matched up in the promod and pro street class there is nothing like the sound of a big blown engine period! a few here might remember the old INXS thundering by the crowd in keywest with 3 blown engines one had the exaust out the side. theres a few others , always a crowd favorite turbo car engines are now 3000-5000hp the blower engines 3-4500hp each........ technology and cnc blocks and heads have come a long ways in the last few years

The new centrifugal blowers are killing the turbo cars. Can run a centrifugal with zoomies and get tons of air in and out of the engine. Turbos are starting to get limited by the exhaust housing.

Cheech,

When John Force starts running turbos, I will believe the crank HP loss of a blower yields a net loss of total HP.

I've never figured out why Merc started using turbos instead of blowers. And we can clearly see they are not of any real advantage unless top speed is the only factor. Gotta spool them up to get any boost out of them.

And, yes... Blowers look way cooler than turbos. Hands down.

Thanks. Brad.

Unlimited,

Only with a clutch or stall converter. Centrifugal blowers offer the disadvantages of turbos without the advantages of an actual supercharger. You have to spool them up before you actually need the boost, and then they don't offer that crazy high boost that turbos do when they are seriously spooled up. I say this as someone who owns one on a boat.

Thanks. Brad.
