Need Asistance Please
Fish Natique mercruiser 454
all has been good with engine changed intake gasket ( for maintenance reasons ) Ran it on the hose engine died and noticed I had water in the oil, already found the problem # two gasket has slipped when I put it in and water got straight into the engine. I cut it off immediately pulled plugs and it spins and all seems well I tooled of the intake and rinsed everything down ( with diesel ) into the oil pan ..the problem is I cannot get to my drain plug so I have to suck it out. The water oil mix is so thick that I can’t suck it out not even with an electric pump any suggestions and is it normal to be so thick it won’t suck out ? |
If your trying to suck it out by using the thin tube down the dipstick tube, try a piece of 3/8 gas line. Connect the gas line with hose clamp to top of tube and direct to pump. The dipstick tube goes down deep enough to get most the oil

You need to get one of these for your application . You should have a drain plug on bottom of pan pan. It might be a pain to get to. . you need to get to it.This is where you become a contortionist. Raise trailer up , take out drain plug on transom , put a big piece of cardboard, sheet, old towels or something where you are working it's easy to make a mess quick, along with a container /catch pan big enough to catch the pour once you remove oil pan drain plug. Remove your filler caps on valve covers and PCV valves. You can clean bilge out with purple power etc. Dispose of your mess properly. contortionist - someone who can twist their body into shapes and positions that normal people cannot . Welcome to inboard marine ownership.:signs069: |
I have an 8 quart hand pump thru dipstick deal. It has sucked up oil with lots of water thru engine’s dipsticks Always quicker when oil is heated up, but..,,,,
It gets used 20-30 times or more a season for past 20 yrs. |

Any possibility your pump needs a new impeller.?

I do know I got a lot of it out by removing dip stick tube pouring diesel and thin oil and and it seem like it overflows and pushes out most of the bad stuff out of the dip stick tube entry hole i think pump is full of that crap mas manual turn over is not pulling it up .. hopefully running it will maybe a bad gamble |

If you’re referring to the pump I’m using to suck out no it is bran you tried electric and manual |
Maybe try installing an electric personal space heater inside the engine bay facing the oil pan. That should heat up the oil to thin it out.
|
Get a heat magnet - they operate at about 250+ degrees, stick to the pan and purpose built to heat an engine....when you are finally finished, just pull it off
|
You can forget trying to pump out the jello once the oil and water have mixed. Engine will need to come out , be completely disassembled and cleaned, rebuilt and reinstalled. You can do 100 oil changes on it, you will never get that sludge out of there.

You would be surprised how well those little pumps suck. I just used mine to suck the thick gear oil out of the Ford 9" rear end on my other boat: 1977 Lincoln Mark V. |
Pull motor, drop pan, pour clean diesel fuel down the oil fill plugs on valve covers. Gallon or so down each side. put pan back on and add 1.5 gallons to oil fill. Disconnect coil, crank over off and on for a few hundred revolutions. Let sit for an hour or so. Pull pan, clean out and inspect a couple of bearings. Put pan back on fill with fresh cheap 5/30 oil and run till it warms up. Drain oil, if it looks pretty clean, install new filter, oil and run it. It will either survive or need to be rebuilt anyway.

ok Got to suck a lot of it out but I’m telling you that was probably 20 gallons of water the same time lol got it running and it runs great. I have already ran it for five minutes and suck the oil out five times and it’s still not getting much cleaner any clue about how many times I will have to do this |
You sure intake is not leaking?

Also, my curiosity is peaked. I never heard of replacing intake gaskets for maintenance. Is this a salt water thing ? Was there an issue you where trying to find root cause of ? Edit in: what motor, intake, and gasket part # do you have ? |

Just in case you missed this the first time. I have seen first hand what happens when an intake gasket fails while underway. You end up with the block and every orifice and passage in it completely filled with chocolate jello. Even with the block completely stripped and put through a parts washer cabinet for a couple of hours, you still have a lot of cleaning to do. Bearings are going to be trash. |
