525efi fuel filters
These 35-807174T fuel filters are on backorder pretty much everywhere that isn't charging double. I'm thinking about switching to an aftermarket one as this happens every year it seems like. Has anyone done this and been happy with a particular model?

Got my boat, thought go through and do all the fluids and filters, seen the price of those POS compared to a comparable GM fuel filter. Thought that's F'in stupid! Thought that even more when I cut one open and there was a measly plastic strainer tube in there. Can't find any pics I took. Seems they are more of a prepump strainer. My boat had NPT barbs into those OEM strainers anyhow, with hoses and worm clamps. Discussed it at this link on here a while ago and linked what I replaced mine with. 496HO Down on power - Page 6 - Offshoreonly.com |
I've ordered them from two different places now that had them listed as in stock only to receive an email stating they are backordered. Leaders was the second place. I looked on Summit and there's hundreds of inline filters with replaceable filter elements. It's hard to see which ones would have the right fitting. My filter uses flared ends almost like brake lines.

I just bought the ebay one posted above. Sure hope it's not a knock off. The knock offs I bought on Amazon looked identical but they were NPT threads..

The correct ones should be inverted flare fittings both ends ?

common filter, that with basic research & cross reference, can be found all over the place on the internet. its a gm/ac-delco filter.

If there’s an actual cross-reference part, we’d all love to know. |
Yep those inverted flare fittings are definitely hard to find. Took it to NAPA and they didn't have any with them. I'm just hoping this ebay one isn't somebody trying to make a quick buck selling something that looks close lol.

What always got me about these motors is why the extra filter, other high HP don't have one and do just fine with standard 10 micron canister

Anybody try weatherhead adapters from inverted flare, to say 16mm x 1.5 ? Many gm fuel injected vehicles use 16mm x 1.5 inline filters.

Speed and Custom Marine out of Tallahassee area has a few, buy a lot from them. Quick shipping

Reviving this thread. Another year and the same issue. There has to be an alternative setup instead of using these filters. They are literally out of stock everywhere. I've got two on order from two different places and both are back ordered. This is nuts.

I wish it was. They look the same but Mercury made theirs with inverted threads on the inside. I'm trying to come up with an aftermarket filter that can use the stock fuel line fittings.
|
the link I posted doesn't say they are bo'd
|
Yeah they are on backorder there too. I have one ordered from there and Hardin/CP Performance. I saw on a Corvette message board that a guy used fittings to be able to run the auto type without the reverse flares. I'm picking up the fittings on my way home from work and will try it out tomorrow. Fittings are Weatherhead 1446.

I have always used Napa Gold fuel filters on mine. The boat is still in the warehouse in winter storage, but I am 99% sure the filter number is 3226 (Napa Gold 3226). https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/FIL3226
|
Yep that works for the fuel water separator but I'm talking about the smaller filter located at the rear of the motor. From what I can tell, I think these Weatherhead fittings are going to work. The weather has been horrible all weekend so I haven't made it out to the boat to try it out. I'll definitely be making sure they're 100% safe as we spend most of our time way offshore. I don't even care that the stock filters are a complete ripoff at $65 +shipping but you'd think they would be accessible.

Installed the adapter fittings and the Wix 33481 tonight. Looks like it worked to me. I turned the key and let the system get up to full pressure and no leaks. It also fit nicely without any issues.
