The Lake

As a Lake of the Ozarks resident...

I always say I am from Lake of the Ozarks rather than the town I actually live in (Osage Beach). Especially since the TV show. Its just fun watching the look of where on earth is that? or Oh, That place!

That being said, whenever I am writing about the area in a post or correspondence with people that know where I live, I use LOTO. We also own a business entity named: LOTO Contemporary Homes...

So there.... Clear as mud!

Curious, as I have heard it both ways, do you guys/gals say it like lot-tow or low-tow?

It's always been "The Lake"... but I live in a small lake community and a friend / neighbor this weekend called it "Lake O"....no one uses "Lake O"!

Live here in Camdenton. Grew up in Stl. Always called it “the lake”. If people don’t know. I tell them lake of the ozarks, central missouri. LOTO is just a short way to put it in type

"The Lake", but I also use LOTO.

I have never head anyone call it LOTO during a conversation.....its always been "The Ozarks" or Lake Of The Ozarks"
Only time i use LOTO is when typing it out like on these forums or a text to someone just for shorthand....... Saying LOTO is just weird to me...

Been a progression for me. As a 13 year old in '77, my first trip down it was "Lake of the Ozarks". From that point on it has progressed to all of the variations listed above.

ROTO

That aint no lake.

Grew up on the 21MM - it's "the lake" - I had always heard LOZ until about the 2010's when imports started calling it loto...
Something about when people say loto I just assume they're new to the area.... I hear it pronounced both "lotto" and "low tow". At the end of the day, I don't care - it's "the lake"

Lake of the Ozarks sounds much better than loto thats what our state calls its lottery i hate it when everyone comes up with goofy acronyms instead of just saying the name of the lake
