exhaust rubber gasket at transom
I'm looking for some options. I have dry exhaust and I'm installing trim rings around them on the transom. Is there a preferred rubber that seals the pipe with the trim ring? I was thinking a heavy duty tractor innertube material. thoughts?
thx, Tom |

What size 4 inch 4.5 ? I might have some new ones
|
Thanks Guys. I'm struggling a bit. I have my pipes coming out of the upper transom at about a 40 degree slant. ( Activator) I'm working with Stainless Marine on the trim rings and they don't have anymore gasket material. And i got the last of the trim rings as well. Letty said it was some crazy 1/4 inch stuff which i can't get my head around. Anyway just received my trim rings and one is a different size so I'll be going back and forth on that deal till i get what i need. Anyway what are your thoughts on the innertube idea? Im going to go down the street to the tire shop and ask them what the thickest tube they have and buy one. I'll cut it up and use that.

I buy that stuff from Mc Master .
If you`re dry exhaust that intertube material will burn up pretty quick. I did all the homework for you since ive spent a buncch of $$ seeing what material and thinckness is best. 8525T43 is the part number I like. I cut em to fit https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/129/3946/8525T43 |
I would like to find some high temp silicone type stuff. Might be cool riding around feeling like i just laid some rubber..lol

Sweat Ride, like dead people said no on the inner tube. I would assume your pipes are dry but water in them? We normally have a small hole at the bottom ends just to bleed a little out so they don't get extremely hot.
On bending the trim rings, I had to shear mine to clear the swim, could you do that on the bottom side? EDIT: Never mind took a closer look at the picture, wow you are right at the bend. |
Looks VERY nice
Congrats !! |

What's the trick for installing the gasket material?
I installed the ones I bought from Teague with the rings as they came. Used Dawn dish soap to help them slide on. 1 week later, and they're split in 2 or 3 different spots. 4" OD exhaust pipes. 5" Trim rings. These exhaust gaskets. https://teaguecustommarine.com/trans...ust-seal-black https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d0f7294f25.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6c9f411a66.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2aad04bdd5.jpg |
Heard back from Teague. They are sending me new gaskets/transom seals. Said they should not have cracked and there should be no need to trim them. Just install them as is.
Got to say, Teague is very responsive when I have reached out to them. So far it's always been the next business day. |

Already got the new ones from Teague. These ones feel a lot more pliable than the other set of seals.
And yes, I agree, that boat is clean AF. |
Sweet activator! I can relate. I have 4.5" pipes but the mold wouldn't fit the 4.5" rings with the larger OD. Had to have custom rings made. I cut the 4" gaskets out but missed it. Will have to try the red stuff posted above.
