Blown Bravo 1?
 

Hello, I have a 2002 sonic 358 with 496 ho’s bravo 1s with 27P hydro 4 blades I was on a run this weekend I was doing roughly 60 to 65 when all of a sudden I felt the boat slow I saw The starboard tack on the rev limiter so I quickly shut it down put everything in neutral did not shut the engines off after a couple of minutes it in gear and both props we’re turning so I idled in to the boat launch and brought it home I pulled the props drain the oil there was minimal metal on the plugs or in the oil I took the top covers off could not see any damage to the gears I put the drives and gear on and forward the spin backwards and then reverse the spin forwards they seem to shift in and out fine I looked behind both engines and could not find any metal around the coupler I was told by a couple people that I blew it out drive but I am unsure
any help would be appreciated thanx

Most likely broke the drive. It might have broken the clutch shaft or vertical shaft, they don't tend to put a lot of metal in the oil. It could have stripped the coupler. Drive needs to come off either way, might as well pull it.

when this happened to me, it was my coupler. With the engine idling, I could just see behind it, and saw it was not spinning the shaft going into the drive.

I have had what you are describing happen to me several times and I had broke the floor of the forward drive gear out.

I had something similar happen to me and I thought for sure that I had blown up another bravo. It turned out to be a drive coupler.

Very possible that that motor died for some reason and the tach maxed out at the same time, It will still shift fine with motor shut down if the the boat is moving forward, since the prop is spinning with the forward movement. If you have started both motors and the props spin in both directions then there are no broken shafts. Also with no metal shavings id say no gear damage either, If you lost a coupler then you would need to put a load on the drive to verify its bad, since the boat moved on its own power at idle.

Its unlikely that you will be able to tell what is wrong on the muffs.
Based on what you have described and checked, it sounds like an engine coupler or if you are very lucky its a spun/cracked prop hub.
My bet is on the coupler

Take it to the ramp, back it in til the drives are submerged, start it up shift it
into fwd, go into the engine compartment, look down behind where the distributor would be if it had one,
you should see the input shaft, if it’s rotating at engine speed, something
mid broken in the drive, if not, it’s the coupler.
