Funny I have had one of those for 40 years.

Wildman,

They will tell you a lot that your naked ears will not. Very often, a vibration will sound the same as contact to the naked ear, but completely different through a contact probe stethoscope. I haven't met an auto mechanic worth their salt that didn't have one.

Thanks. Brad.

A screwdriver tip contacting the part, with your ear on the handle is a good alternative in a pinch.

I would think the trans may be the weak link in the system.

It would take a lot to twist/bend the shaft.

Tartilla,

I've seen that done. Something about all those belts and pulleys in the average car's engine compartment (And I used to have LOOOONG hair) scares the crap outta me...

Thanks. Brad.

It's bad enough with a fan turning at all...I'm always thinking of a blade coming off. Despite the unlikely event.

Lol...we're talking the longer flat head type, or something similar. Safety first.

Yeah, long hair brings all sorts of issue to the party!

The mechanic's stethoscope is an amazing tool. Prob should be used more as preventative as well as troubleshooting.

Did the screw driver thing .... so issue does not seem to be the drive shaft or u-joints, trans or arnesons ... thank the boat gods! One prop hit the other hard enough to tear a 1 inch crack in the other. Both are now way outta balance causing weird noise at rpms below 1000. I have a spare set so will do a swap this weekend and see if it resolves issue. Spare props are not actually the right pitch but will work for now while I find new (to me) ones or get mine fixed

Might be cheaper to find some old school Arneson ASD8 19-spline props than getting these repaired. Will have to see

compedgemarine 03-05-2024 01:53 PM

call Frank & Jimmies in ft. lauderdale, they fix them all the time

B Blades on here often has a winter sale. Haven't seen it yet.

Have you thuought of the spline hub adapter to get you to 26 Spline props? May be a good time for it now.

So the noise with props off was gone?
