Looking for more speed.
Looking to get more speed out of my 1992 24' Challenger. It has a 525hp 496 with a 1.36 bravo. Currently has run a best of 79.6 with a 23p 3 blade. The drive sits pretty low and I was thinking of adding a -2 lower, I'm looking for some insight on that or anything else that could help before I drop more power in it. I'll snap a pic of the transom shortly, has a small pad and fixed tabs.

79mph with a 3 blade 23p @ 6000 rpm? Or more>?
|
5400 rpm, that was on basically no fuel and just me in the boat. normally runs around 75 with half a tank and two people. Going to pull the silent choice off and new motor will have aluminum heads to save some weight.

I dont know your hull, but Id do some measuring before throwing parts at it. where is the prop shaft in reference to the bottom of the pad, some hulls just run out of gas at certain mph
|
Also…..Try a friends 1.5 bravo with bigger prop ?
|
you need a 3/4 race cam and run down the river for that extra humph.:)
or,,buy a 29 outerlimits. |
I was thinking about this, If I would be better off with a 1.5 I would definitely switch that out.

most go down to a 1.36 when they run out of prop and are on the limiter, it takes bigger power to pull a 1.36
|
Trim the drive so the propshaft is parallel to the bottom and then measure how deep the propshaft is below the hull.

Cool Boat.
The Challenger shop for assembly and rigging was in Cedar Springs, MI but if I remember correctly their molds were further north..Ludington sorta rings a bell, but could've been up in the Onekema/Frankfort area as well..that was a long time ago. Mike Bowers and his son Sean (sp?) were the Challenger guys and had a few running around MI that would really go, especially back in that era... I'm not on Facebook or other social media but if you could track either of those guys down - if they're still alive - they probably could answer your questions...might also search for Challenger owners group or similar. Their 22 (AeroTech ?) and their 24 and 28 Super V hulls surprised a lot of guys with "name" boats back in the day when they went around them... Good Luck d |

There are quite a few in the area that run well ! ! !
Good luck getting all you can out of it :) |
propshaft is about 7,1/4" below the bottom, seems deep to me.
