Exhaust water spots/cleaner
On the cig I had some nice mufflers and they were a pain to keep clean.
I used to mix vinegar, CLR, and degreaser and use a sanding pad. at one point I had them Ceracoat clear coated, and ceramic coated , helped for a bit . Now there`s even more to clean .. what do you guys use ?? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fde2add3b1.jpg |
I use 0000 steel wool with soap and water on my SS tips and any thing on them comes of very easily. I also polish all the SS and wax everything after each use, so that may be why any hard water spots come off easily, but I am super OCD about cleaning.

Not sure how your water is there but I use this after I go to Havasu on all the shiny transom stuff. No polishing just spray and wipe or hose off.

Toilet bowl cleaner works pretty well also.

I have yet to find that magic potion for keeping it perfect. The problem is the heat from the exhaust...it vaporizes the water and the mineral deposits are left behind causing the rings. Like you've been doing with the vinegar mix seems to work great for taking them off during a wash. As for polishing i have great luck with this cheap stuff called Shadazzle i found in Menards. I bought one and was blown away at how it cleaned rust spots off of stainless so i went and bought them out a week later as they were clearing them out. I guess they changed the packaging as they used to be in an orange tub but now looks to be white. Anyway you have to be care full on what you are cleaning with this stuff....it took off the black Bosch logo printed on the stainless panel on my oven like it was freshly painted!!
Works awesome on props :D i use it around the house too on faucets and sink tub spouts to take the water spots off...makes them all slick, like a fresh wax on your car afterwards too :D Flitz also seems to work great at removing water marks especially on chrome......there's a TON of products that work just as good out there im sure...just have to put the elbow grease into it ;) |
Yep, Biokleen for the win... best stuff I've found for exhaust tips.
|
BioKleen x10
|
Bio Kleen here too! Hey, the guy is a Chemist and a boater. He's got it figured out.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...911be1f8c.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e4c9930d6.jpeg I wonder how this stuff will work on baked-on carbon/soot on exhaust tips...? Thanks. Brad. |
For getting the mineral deposits off, I usually just use some mild acidic cleaner like Zep tile/shower cleaner or toilet bowl cleaner. The best metal polish I have found is White Diamond.

Tank,
I wonder how this stuff will work on baked-on carbon/soot on exhaust tips...? Thanks. Brad. stuff is MAGIC though. Get the item wet, spray on biokleen, use a wet rag to kinda rub the area around a bit, then spray off. Half the time you don’t even need to use a rag. It’s truly amazing how well it works. |
Autosol metal polish in the tube.
Just a micro amount on a blue shop towel. Doesn't take much, but cuts and cleans while keeping it all polished. |

Griff, never knew of white diamond polish. Thanks for the recommendation. I've used white cake compound on a polishing wheel to polish small car parts before and it is magic. I'm going to get some of the liquid and try it.

We all have our favorite metal polishes.
https://a.co/d/0cXBDMiJ I've used a lot of them, and that one is the one I always circle back to. Couple thoughts: Look into Shark Hide for a final layer of protectant. It works well. https://a.co/d/0cXBDMiJ Also, see if you can find someone from a truck stop or truck shop that polishes wheels and fuel tanks and the like. They will polish just about anything you are willing to pay them for. (Get your mind out of the gutter). And setting up a routine visit may be a good idea. |
Brian I`ve used Shark Hide , it`s a tough coating.
You`ve used it on stainless? |

That's it, but I'm pretty sure its way cheaper at your local Walmart.
|
I use spray lime away, spray on and let it sit for minute and rinse off.
|
Ok i was at my local Menards (like a home depot if your not familiar) and as always i stroll through the automotive isle just to see what else i don't need to buy..... ;) and this white bottle catches my eye and what do ya know its the White Diamonds....same price as Wallyworld....picked it up and decided to try it out on an oxidized aluminum threshold for my garage side door. I'm Impressed! For as bad as it was, it did clean it up fairly good...not 100% and i wasn't expecting that from how bad it looked, but it did A LOT better than i thought it would do! I'm gonna have to find some other things to try it out on but so far I'm liking it :)
And it does seem to leave a coating or something when done....the polished aluminum seems ever so slightly darker then what a typical polish would do i think....time will tell how it holds up :D |

The carbon/soot didn't show up until the performance started to drop off. I really thought getting the injectors worked out, and the stage 2 Whipple tune (that is supposed to reduce the dreaded 496 transom soot) would make this problem go away. Thanks. Brad. |
BioKleen Black Streak Remover then Hull cleaner. Do one then rinse do the other then rinse repeat if necessary until back to shinny surface.
|
Searching for Biokleen Black streak remover I ran across 303 product.. didn`t know they made that .. usully their products are pretty good .
