It was a factory build from PQ, and I have no record of any dyno time. I only know we are pulling more prop and running 10-15MPH faster than the same boat with the same engine NA. I built a can am maverick for sand drags, the engine makes 140hp NA, I built the engine with billet crank rods forged pistons and added a 54mm turbo on e85 and at 45 psi boost it did 600hp!! The math is very close and i have used that formula for years. |

I would say that it would take around 650hp to run 75 in a Baja 272 with a normal load of fuel, people and gear on board, but then you just start breaking drives.

Sounds like a nice piece. I assume it has hydraulic steering? If not, that is the first thing I would do before trying to go faster. The engine sounds like it was built with the right parts to go fast, might just throw a few pounds of boost to it with a blower and easily get to where you want to be.

What drive is on it? This is one aspect of our "factory build" that I wish had been properly addressed at the factory. We are still running a stock Bravo1, near as I can tell. Thanks. Brad. |
I found a 1992 checkmate convincer 25 with a new 598 chev, teague platinum outdrive 1.5 ratio its very clean. Is this a good boat and is that drive good?

I'm no expert on drives, but I do know the Teague name carries a TON of weight in the industry. If they put their name on it, I'd say it's a good drive. As for the Bravo.... They're a great drive, but I'd be very concerned about putting that much HP and torque to it if it's in stock form, and maybe even if it had been upgraded. The current Bravo1 is rated at 450HP, as far as I know. I've seen a lot of boats with 496HO that have BravoX drives, or even XRs. It's interesting they saw fit to add external steering but not upgrade the drive. See what you can find out about it, as far as any modifications/upgrades they may have done to it. Thanks. Brad. |

both are close to same price, the 272 might be more detailed, the checkmate has more hp, bigger engine, and the teague platinum drive. checkmate is a 1992 the 272 is a 98.
272 is 5k cheaper. WHAT ONE SHOULD I GET???? |
