Fountian 38 EC

I have purchase a 2002 Fountian j38 FT EC. It takes more than 6 seconds to get it on plain. My power is twin 496 HO Mags. my out drives are MerCruiser Bravo 3 XR. Are these out drives geared to push my Fountain the way it was designed. All comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Mine is a 2008 with 525efi. They are heavy getting on plane. I bring drives down and tabs down and gradually bring it up to 2500 rpm and just let it roll over. As soon as the bow starts coming down tabs go up and drives come up to 3 and it takes off. Keep in mind the drives are the weak link in the package and pricey to replace and repair so be easy on them

I have a 496 02 and it’s a pig to get on plane. Make sure your screens on the fuel pumps are clean!

You have the correct setup for that boat. It is a heavy peformance hull based cruiser so it needs the extra prop bite of the B3's and the strength of the XR gears to make it get up and go. It will never be ski-boat fast out of the hole. Just trim the drives ALL the way in and drop your tabs ALL the down before take off. Ease into the power (don't firewall it) and let it roll over. Once up and running bring up the tabs and drives as needed. It will take some runway to get going, so plan accordingly. Keep the engines in top tune as others have said as you will need every bit of that 850 HP to move.
