Granddad’s boat

First time poster here. I’m looking for help. I have a 19’ 1972 Larson/Glasspar/Cigarette boat that belonged to my Grandpa and then my Father. It looks just like a Son of a Gun. From my research it was built and rigged in Little Falls, MN. It is understood that there was a licensing agreement/joint venture with Larson boats and Cigarette. Cigarette let Larson have the mold to build this boat. They only built three boats and ended the program. Our boat has been in the family for 51 years but the info I have is word of mouth. I really hope to confirm all this and maybe learn more. If anyone has knowledge of this I would really appreciate the help. My hope is to restore her someday.

Thank you

Can’t help you on the pedigree, but that is very cool. Lots of old gunners on here that still stop by and hopefully help you out….

What is the difference between this boat and the 20’ Cigarette, they look identical?

Wannabe Cig 09-08-2024 09:21 AM

Our boat is just under 20’ if I remember correctly.

jbraun2828 09-08-2024 09:30 AM

It’s definitely a 20 cig

Smarty 09-08-2024 09:43 AM

My father had a 20 foot Cigarette built new by Don Aronow. Your boat is identical in shape and form. I have never heard of Larsn having the mold for the 20.

I could be wrong about the Larson part of your boat’s history but I would say I love that 20 foot Cigarette.

Whats in it for power SBC ?

Wannabe Cig 09-08-2024 09:53 AM

454 Merc with Bravo One outdrive. Not sure what the orginal motor was at this point.

In regards to the orig manuf, I believe the serial number encodes the manuf of the hull.

Love the lines on that boat. Timeless...

Your fathers 20 Cigarette it wasn’t a jet drive was it?

zfrilly 09-08-2024 07:02 PM

Great looking boat! Cig or not it's a keeper. Must be fun with a big block in it. What kinda speed does it run?

It came with a 270 Volvo outdrive and SBC (350 cu.in).

He later put a 280 Volvo OD on it. It was a cool boat.

Your boat is just amazing! So many similarities. I will look for a hull number. How long have you owned yours?

I am revisiting this as I have lucked into some new and exciting info on my Granddads boat. The adventure continues. Thank you to all the contributors to this thread.

Nice. So does Grandpa's boat have a Cigarette HIN?

larslindroth 09-20-2024 12:40 AM

1971 Cigarette 19, number 1 made. They were renamed 20 in 1973 so the they didn't have to comply with floatation due to new Coast Guard rules

for boats below 20 feet. Grandpa's Don Twenty sure is in nice condition. Congratulations.

Well, he is in Florida, so maybe he is still waiting for winter to start.
