1100 QV4 Rebuilds
Question, What is the going rate to rebuild a set of 1100 QV4's ? What is the turn around time ?

80 grand is per engine. Not for a set.

As bad ass as they are, I wouldn't even consider a boat with any QC4V'S in it. I don't know what real-world longevity for them is but according to Merc "refresh time" is required at "200 max hours". $80,000 ea. every 200 hours is some expensive fun!
|
Definitely the 1% er. Think about it, guys at that level are not pulling and sending them in, so R& R plus I am sure other items need work means add another 40-60K on top of the 160K.
Every 200-300 hours!

Does anyone know the true cost to buy one new?

I had 1100's in my MTI, never one issue. I checked the valve lash myself, easy job, just time consuming. Sold mine approaching 300 hours, still strong.
There are several out there that have gone over 400 hours w no issues. I believe the yellow DCB was one of them. Ya, rebuilds not cheap...not arguing that. But, they will go way past 200 hours. |
80 grand that’s insanity, gotta be making some bucks to throw away to afford that.
My buddy Todd had some detuned 1100s from Ben at Chief that were half that price and never missed a beat. |
salt water motors cost more to rebuild than fresh water motors as they throw more stuff away. leadtime isn't long as they dont rebuild your motors rather they swap long blocks and salt water accessories if yours are corroded

Even the 1075s were crazy money to rebuild back in the day. One owner of a 47 GTX told me its $500 an hour to run that boat (just engine rebuild price) so fast foward to today (160K/200 hours = $800 an hour). So add in fuel and insurance/ hours used and suddenly its $1000's an hour to turn on the keys! Some guys will dump the boats before the rebuild is due and let the new owner pay for it.

I have no idea where some of you are getting pricing…. $54,000 is Mercs cost on 1100 and 1350 rebuilds.
Now, that being said this does not include exhaust, which in most realms is foolish not to replace at this juncture. Kaase is another slightly cheaper option as well. I own ChattVipers old boat. It has 295 hours on it now. Valves lash perfect, oil consumption perfect, leak down perfect… they are no where NEAR needing rebuilds. 400-450+ hours is pretty routine for cared for 1100s |

Mercury had a display of a 1350 + a M8 and gimble at PBC four plus yrs a go and it was 150K IIRC
|
i have a friend who lost a 1350 at 189 hours it was $115,000 to rebuild both and replace a turbo housing or 2. from what i have seen the 1100s run at least twice as long the 1350s before needing a refresh. valve lash and paying attention to oil temp and getting it hot before beating on it is important.

Isn’t a 1350 all Mercury from the block up?

I had a pair of new 1100 QC4Vs in my boat in 2015 . Nothing comes close to ease and reliability, as well as manners around the dock. That kind of power on pump gas, and oddly fuel efficient as well. Valve lash, with proper care and maintenance and they are good for 400+ hours. Yes, upfront cost is more than a traditional Big Block, but so is resale. Rebuilds aren't cheap, but what's a boat worth with fresh QC4V power ? I feel all the money.

When Merc did our 1100's the cost was $42,127 per.
Then there's other items like paint, transmission, alternator, intercooler, etc... that is a case-by-case basis that could add to the total. Expensive, yes.....but you are paying for reliability every time you click start! |
