Rear cooler fittting question

Need help from the 'Brain Trust' regarding this fitting on the rear cooler on my 540 motor...it's a small 1/4" nipping tat had a rubber hose connected to it. Any ideas would be appreciated Thx🇺🇸

MooresWarlock,

What's the issue?

I have no direct answer, but, at first glance, it appears to be an NPT port in the cooler. I know all the ports in both new coolers I am installing for my 496 rebuild are NPT. If it is NPT, then I'd say any NPT fitting of the right size that suits your needs should work.

Thanks. Brad.

Looks like a water drain to me.

my guess is it is the cooler drain and it was being used to feed a water pressure gauge

I assumed it was a fitting to feed a water pressure gauge to the dash...just didn't want guess without some feedback. Thanks again for the quick response 🏁🇺🇸
