496 hp3
 

I recently purchased a 496 HP3 and having difficulties finding parts even from Merc. When looking through specific engines for parts, the HP3 is nowhere to be found. I didn't realize this engine is a completely different from an EFI or HO engine. Does anyone know where to get parts?

Its not a Merc engine.

Thanks for the reply, Griff. I did see that string and reached out to a few of them but they're struggling to find anything as well. I quess I'm going to have to start fabricating.

it to bad I think that would have been a good platform.

HP3 is a rare engine, but very cool. Unfortunately you've got the challenge that the 496/Gen 7/8.1 has that it's a largely metric engine so Gen 6 and earlier engines/parts are different. Plus you've got the mods that were done to make it into an HP3. Best of luck, it's the holy grail for the Gen 7 cult.

Maybe Innovation Marine can help with parts?

What parts are you looking for that you can fabricate? As a toolmaker that has made a fair bit of parts for my build, I'm curious to start following this thread....

If anyone is interested, there was a good thread on modifying a 496 on oso I believe. It could have been the hp3 engine, i can't remember.

The poster was going into good detail modifications he was making on the stock parts to get more power. One portion i remember is he changed just the injector angle in the intake and picked up like 20-30 hp.
