If you have a man hole cover stuck to the bottom of your car, you might want to consider a weaker magnet.:D

Possible dissimilar metals corrosion?
Periodic moisture in the oil.

What's the magnet made of, Neodymium Iron Boron? Pan?

Also, make sure you have the clearance. :)

They are Neodymium Iron Boron 1"x.25". (clearance, no problem)

Steel pan - I'm thinking of placing a layer of plastic between the pan and magnet to prevent any corrosion.

What is the concern for moisture in the oil?

The magnet are small, but strong as a MOFO.

Just the same reason, depending on the magnet material and how it would react to moisture....Probably not a big concern.

Daze ... I am going to put them on the outside of the pans.

;)

Oh...Then what happens if it falls or gets knocked off...That big clump of metal all of a sudden gets turned loose. Could be bad news.

I don't know about the boat but on my Ford, the magnets are on the inside of the pans, Both Tranny and Oil.

Good point ... But, as strong as these MOFOs are, I don't see how they could come off without something actually knocking it off.

If they were to come off, the "clump" of metal would have to pass thru the filter before it gets to any bearings. I would hope that "clump" wouldn't be too big, know what I mean ;)

I just put mine on the filter its self! No chance of it getting knocked off and if it still is a concern just place a piece of duck tape over it! :D

I know exactly what you mean. ;)
Fingers crossed for No Clumps:D
