That`s a bold statement.

The difference in lake Michigan and the Ocean is typically swell separation. The Haulover videos are due to tide flo and making things stand up against each other. Lake Michigan is a deal of its own "boated there for the first 30 years of my life and have boated the Atlantic for the last 20". I have WAY more rough water experiences on the Great Lakes especially in the autumn season.

I've never been on the Great Lakes, as a boater, but I've heard Erie can get quite angry. And that Lake Michigan is way worse. I've thought about doing the PQ run from Holland, MI to wherever it is in WI they go, and then I remember we're in a 28' boat with no navigation. NOPE.

I have crossed lake Michigan from Saugatuck to Chicago I think 4 or 5 times now, and always in 3-5 footers and a 27' boat. Definitely wouldnt call it "fun"

70 miles in 5' waves in a 27'?
I find that hard to believe.
I wouldn`t do that in a 38' but I`m referring to real 3'- 5' waves.

Took me 9 hours, plenty of times where the waves were taller than the boat

First times were a formula 27pc, next times were a cobalt 27' open bow. The cobalt trip was definitely the worst and absolutely had 3-5' waves

When it hits you don’t have a choice. We were still 30 mi out off Sarasota heading home from grouper fishing and couldn’t avoid a squall line. The squall turned into a full blown TS cell at 26 mi out and lasted all the way in. At one point we had negative forward speed on the chart plotter. 6’ head sea in a 24’ world cat.
The waves were 3-4 sec period with vertical drops off the faces. Broke all the hinges off the bow hatches. The boat wouldn’t have made it in if we hadn’t had full fuel to start with. We never made over 5 knots until we got in New Pass.
Sometimes you just have to deal with it.
