Velocity 22

Hi all, looking at a 1985 Velocity 22 at the weekend to pass the time until a decent Scarab 38 or 43 becomes available.

is there anything I should look out for? It’s got a Mercruiser V8 in it.

Any advice welcomed

Cheers

Like with any 40 year old boat, closely inspect the transom, stringers and cockpit floor. The engine hatch wood can be soft from rain water and perhaps the rear bench seat wood frame. Don't "stress" about minor stress cracking in the gelcoat - the 1985's were layed up on the lighter side!

You really want an outboard version.

Thanks for that I’ll give it a good look over on Saturday 👌🏻

I hear you but it’s almost impossible to find one in the UK😩

steer away from an '84 model year 22. 1984 was the first year of production on the 22's. every one of them needed the bottoms fixed at velocity for delamination. the 3/8' baltek balsa core was layed in, upside down, with the scrim on the wrong side. brought in, and started using a chopper gun soon after, so '85 & '86 22's were better. then sold out to regal.

Apparently it’s not a 22 it’s a 230! Any idea if it could still be a 1985 or would it be newer? Any help appreciated

The last two digits of the HIN should be the yr of production

Looks like it is a Regal made Velocity. That would make it an 1986?
