Dan,

I think you’re thinking of Jamestown, which is directly across from StateDock. To my knowledge, StateDock doesn’t have any skips that you can’t walk to. I’ve never used the Jamestown ramp, but I dropped some friends off there once and got a look at the ramp. I did not like what I saw. StateDock ramp is fantastic, even if the getting there sucks.

I’ve heard the ramp by the dam is the best, but I’m stuck in my ways and have launched at state dock’s ramp for years. If I can launch my 34’ cabin cruiser there, pretty much any performance boat is doable.

Be careful, as the left side of the ramp (when standing at the top of the ramp looking down) ends much shorter than the other side. I’m not sure where water levels are at, but I always launch on the side nearest the crappy little courtesy dock. Also, I usually come in Tuesday, so parking is pretty much empty. But, I believe it fills up fast.

First picture shows the drop off in the ramp that I mentioned. Third picture shows the small courtesy dock.
