Has anyone received their insurance quotes? These are interesting times. Ballast is going to become your friend with 4 hanging off a wide tunnel 39'-the boat is balanced so well with twins. It will definitely have the torque to run tucked and push through the rough with 4 of the MoTec/Kong strapped on. This is some of the stuff that I have been saying "we are just getting started". Obviously Justin is going out for kill mode at the shootout and gearcase lift will make it no problem to fly level in calm water and set up on the edge.

Who's making a prediction of the number being that his twin set up has been 153??

Looks like you're going to have to either add another motor Joe or just buy an inboard cat. The ridiculousness seems to be never ending with these new outboard setups. They're going over left and right with 2 outboards on the back of cats, now they think they're going to work better with twice the weight hanging off the back? I think we're one big lawsuit against away from the insurance industry pulling out of the outboard cat market. I've seen it happen before with the big power inboard cat market, don't think the same thing can't happen to this new outboard cat market - which would affect a much larger group of owners.

And to answer your question about the top speed prediction - still not close to the inboard boats that have routinely been going 190+ for over two decades now.

I’ve been pondering this so much since seeing it. Obviously I don’t know what they changed in its design, but it sure does make me nervous seeing it based on its specs.

The other thing that I have in my mind. The big advantage of the OB cats is simplicity and a cost advantage to going I/O when building one new and for reliability. This seems to go away from both? I new 39 DW or any of them is around $900k with twin 500’s so a quad 500 boat would be $1.1m - $1.2m probably. At that point you can be in a 388 with 1100’s and a 2 year warranty for not much more.

To me if you want 2000hp do it with I/O but it just has me thinking out loud here.

I hope it goes well for all involved and I have major respect for Justin, he is such a great guy!

So adding two more motors fuel usage, two more drives and associated drag, the extra weight of the whole package is going to mean better fuel economy and longer distances? How does a 4 engine I/O compare to a typical 2 engine I/O? I wish them luck trying something fairly new in the powerboat world but I don’t see the risk worth the reward.

None of the boats that have run 190 in the shootout are boats that I can put 200 to 300 hours on each year. They are also 3,500 to 6,000 horsepower rigs that I can't have up and running the same week that it breaks whether I had the money or not. Can't afford to insure, and can't afford to feed fuel. The whole allure of sticking with outboards is simplicity and serviceability. The center consoles with triples, quads, and quints run non-stop season after season. If they break a case, or pop a powerhead, they are still on the water that next weekend due to the fact that parts and service centers are everywhere. (But I too am skeptical of what we are seeing in this article because I have had a few overpowered cats and they will bite you if you don't give them the respect of lightweight limitation).

I'm also not sure about your quote of "twin outboards going over left and right". I don't know of one Doug Wright pleasure boat that has blown over. I don't know of one 35' + outboard DCB that has blown over, I don't know of one Eliminator outboard boat in this 35' + size range that we are talking about blowing over, I don't know of one Spectre outboard, one Statement outboard, one Performance Powerboats, one AMT outboard cat, one Fountain outboard cat, one outboard Mystic, one Outerlimits, one Phoenix, or XRP. So you might want to look at the others that I missed and find a common denominator. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The fastest production based inboard right now is a new MTI 482 with 1550s in it. The boat will run 190 as proven in 1350 mode "from the factory, with a warranty". Scotts ran 165 last year at the shootout. Those boats are 2.2 Million and up with insurance at 50k a year. I have been in that boat and there is not an outboard anywhere close at this point.

I have said it lots of times (if I could afford to play in the big leagues I would). I sure love watching them but my stuff still makes me smile every time and we boat everyday in the summer and usually twice a week in the winter months.

I usual like to boat with girls in the boat. That being said they aren't fans of over the top speeds. I am an adrenaline junky as well but realize it's time to slow the roll with cars, snowmobiles, boats and bikes. Vince Zampella created Call of Duty and is no longer with us. He passed Dec 21st. It wasn't the new Ferrari that did him in. He had some money with a net worth of $40 million and at the end of the day it doesn't matter.

As far as insurance, not stating the top speed, negligence which includes intoxication from drugs and alcohol, driver abstract, credit history, equity ownership in the vessel, lying about driver history allows the insurance companies to nullify the insurance. It also opens the operator/owner driver up to personal liability. Personal assets in jeopardy. Umbrella policies will not cover these boats. Sitting down and reading the 22 pages insurance declaration is not a bad idea.

Nor-Tech seems to be selling quite a number on the Quad 400`s
They however have a head, cuddy, lougers, room for 12, and they build em to be safe (heavy) then you get a bunch of dildos making fun of it because 140mph isn` fast enough with quads I guess? 140mph safe or 150mph on the edge, I`ll take 140mph everytime.
So far the DW has a standard 8 people cockpit so nothing exciting there ..

I’d love to see proof of this 482 running 190 and in 1350 mode! Nothing like it? I’ll put my life savings on a 438 Skater cleaning its clock. And MTI prices don’t count, their customers are a cult of mental midgets!!

Wow, pretty bold statement. You might want to consult with Myrick Coil. He has more high speed seat time in both models then anyone I know of. I am just sharing what I experienced and agreeing with Dale that inboards like this are definitely king of the food chain at this time.
