30-32 ft cats Io.or Ob.

Thinking of going to a cat . But neaver had out bords.

Sonny Spectre 30 12-11-2002 06:31 PM

I have a 30 Spectre IO and bought it over the outboards after going for a test ride. Faster in the rough, faster when loaded with people and gear, and no vibration, and no oil to buy. Props are cheaper and the rumble of the exhaust is hard to beat.

packinair 12-11-2002 06:36 PM

While I agree the runble is hard to beat... I have twin O/B's and if I pop a powerhead, complete rebuild about $3k, nuke a lower $1200.. Now how much to replace a 900sc and a #6??? More than 4200??

mmo jo 12-11-2002 06:58 PM

How is the spector in 3/4 footers.

tripps 12-11-2002 07:06 PM

Ive had plenty of inboards in my life,i have obs now ,and i cant believe what they can do!!!!!! tripps

Is the room where the motor would go just storage on the outboard powered version? Seems like alot of space that could be used as cockpit space.

I've got the 30' AMT DEMO boat for sale. It is a full cat, like a SKATER, SPECTRE, or MOTION. They are built on the west coast of Florida. It is in Sarasota now. It has seating for 5 and runs 90 loaded down with 5 and fuel. It was built in July of 02 with Merc 2.5's All LATHAM controls. brand new powdercoated trailer. $95,000.00 and it's yours.

A pair of 300s on a 30 Spectre should get you to about 101. What would a pair of 500 HPs get ya?

Sonny Spectre 30 12-12-2002 06:32 AM

3-4 Footers should be no problem for the 30 Spectre. My boat loaded with 500 HP EFI's runs around 102 GPS with a load of fuel, 2 people and my gear, i mean beer. I have run 97 with 7 people on board. Plus you can add more power and go faster, limited with the outboards.

mjuwalters 12-12-2002 08:52 AM

My 30ft motion with 300 promaxs runs 104 loaded with fuel and 4 people. Tops out 109-110, and its not hard on fuel. Ride is good but I am sure inboard would ride better. Outboards do cost much less speed vs dollar. You chose

I own a 30 Motion with triple 2.5 280hp. 115 on gps just me and 110 mph with 5 in the boat. I/o are nice, sound cool but an o/b boat will crush the i/o in a drag race. You are on the water pull up next to another boat going 40 mph, you see the drive hammer down the i/o, my wife waves good bye as I hammer the two strokes. Not even close unless the other boat is packing big blower motors. Top speed may be close (twin 500's vs twin 280's)but it takes the i/o so long to get there. Gas milage is almost double on the o/b and faster and cheaper to rebuild. I have had a two stroke rebuilt in hours.

Ron my 30 Spectre with 300X's runs 104 mph with 14.5X32's on GPS and I still have way too much water pressure as soon as I start raising the motors, I think I'll get 106 or 107 out of it. Laterz Mark

mmo jo 12-12-2002 07:58 PM

Who fast would a 30 spector or motion run with 3- 300s?

packinair 12-12-2002 08:09 PM

When I was looking at a motion with trips that 3rd motor alone made it over $1200 more to insure just

ViciousOne 12-12-2002 11:16 PM

OUTBOARDS ARE THE WAY TO GO!!!!!

mmo jo 12-15-2002 04:14 PM

How big of water can you run a 30 -32 ft.cat 4s-5s?

HyperBaja 12-15-2002 04:56 PM

Everyone I have talked to with Ob say that they can run them harder and longer for more years than almost any other I/O. Dont forget that the OB has more power/weight than any IO.

mmo jo 12-15-2002 05:24 PM

I have allways had big power and Im afraid ill miss the sound of the big block. But a 2.5 sounds cool to. I think what I like about obs. is less maintenance .

I am used to the sound of 2500+hp blower motors in our drag cars and I got over that for my 2.5's just fine. ;)
