Formula 280ss vs Four Winns 285 Sundowner
Hello, been a while since I've posted, but coming back to this very insightful site for some help.
After some rears with our older 28 ft cruiser (twin 4.3 alpha drivers), looking for a change to a more, day-cruiser style boat. So like the title says, I have source a few local boats. 1st, 2000 Four Winns 285 Sundowner, twin Volvo Penta 5.7 Gsi with SX drives, about 330 hrs and the OEM separate trans/throttle (ZERO effort???) controls that I prefer. 2nd, 1995 Formula 280 SS, twin merc 5.7 EFI and bravo 3’s redone in 2025, UNKNOWN hrs and standard controls. Now the 280SS is $5,500 cheaper with ALUM twin-axle trailer, Four Winns has no trailer. I will be looking for a WINDLASS for either and Four Winns is pre-wired in the dash. Also be getting the extended swim platform and camper top possibly. So with those option not on, I believe the Formula will be easier to find those as there is many more Formulas then Four Winns in these models. HELL I couldn’t even locate a manufacturer for a camper top for the Four Winns. So wondering thoughts on an order, yet a lot less expensive when you include a trailer, FORMULA 280SS vs the Four Winns 285 Sundowner? Thanks John |
