Ford Excursion

Well, w/ the family growing, my wife has decided to get rid of her 2002 (yes, 10 month old) Volvo V 70 wagon. She was b/n the Yukon XL and the Excursion. We are going w/ the Excursion b/c of a better trade in value on the Volvo (but still, a $10k loss).
We are undecided on whether to go w/ the Diesel or the V 10. I got a price of $45413 for an Eddie Bauer PSD, which listed at $50670 and $39985 on the same truck but a V 10 that listed for $45490.
Is the Diesel worth the extra $5500?
They are '03 models. Anyone have any experience re: reliability, etc...?
Thanks in advance.

I definetly say PSD. Unless this will be a grocery getter making short trips around town. If so, go V10 and accept the 9-11 MPG.

If this will be used for road trips and towing, maybe wait 30 days or so for the new 6.0 ltr PSD with the new 5 spd auto. More $$ but sweet!

Oh, and since the Excursion has such lousy resale (I still want one) I think the PSD will help it hold more value.

For a big rig, go diesal. My F350 PSD gets 15 mpg around town and 19 on the hwy. Towing I go down to about 10 or 11 hwy. Wardey

I have a 2K PSD and love it! We will be buying a new one in 2004 since it's the last year of availability. The diesel is definitely worth every penny.
Wait for the 6.0 litre diesel to come out- although the 7.3 is tried and true, the 6.0 is going to be the one to beat.

I am A dealer in Maryland, DO NOT BUY GAS, you will never sell it!!!

I was not impressed by the ride quality of the Excursion. It rode just like a pick up truck, as compared to the GMC, and Suburban.

the diesel is a plus, to bad Chevy doesn't offer it. None the less I went with the Suburban LT 496.

the turning radius is horrible too. If the wife is going to be driving, she is going to have a little trouble with K-Turns

What won't be available? The Powerstroke or the Excursion?

For the wife I would go V-10.

I have a 2002 F350 PSD, the wife has the 2001 Excursion V-10.

She only drives 6 miles to work, I drive 22. The V-10 is peppy has hell. I cannot believe how it preforms. She likes it because it is quite and she hates to pump diesel. I do not know why, but all the diesel pumps around here are nasty as hell.

I personally enjoy driving the V-10 over the PSD. It just does not do as good a job towing 12,000 pounds.

As for the turning radius, I disagree that it is bad. I have actually had several friends that have driven it to comment on how easy it is to park. It is 10 times better than my F-350 Crew Cab!

Go drive them for yourself. My wife wanted it. Now I love them.

i have the v-10 excusion and love the pulling power. i believe it has about the same torque as the desiel. but the milage sucks of 10 mpg. but gas is cheeper than desiel.
