Wardy,

It is very important you know what you are doing! If not you will have lots of problems. These problems will result in wasted money and you will wind-up hating it. The live rock and sand are the back bone to the filtration. They house the bacteria that eats all the waste in the water. It is the main filter. The only other filter you will need is a protein skimmer. There are 3 kinds. Venturi, downdraft, and beckett. They all work well but you need to make a choice.

If your plumbing is not set-up right you may set yourself up for an overflow, and from where you are setting up the tank could ruin your wall, carpet, wood floors, basement, etc. Also depending on your waterflow, it can be very noisy.

1 more thing, do not rely on your LFS (Local Fish Store) for info and equipment. Most do not know what they are doing and those that do will try and sell you the world and feed you all kinds of B.S.

If you want any advise send me a PM and I will send you my #. I will be more than happy to help. I have been doing this for more than 10 yrs. I have some corals that have grown to the size of basketballs and rocks to 50lbs in size.
