chips in gelcoat on bottom strakes
i have a few chips on the bottom of my boat on the strakes will this cause my boat to loose any mph or will it not effect it that much?

Should not effect it that much, however fiberglass is poroise and will obsorbe water. Don't freek about it but I would try and get it repaired at some time

I have numerous chips on my 1990 30SS. I don't know why you would have them but mine were caused by air pockets between the gelcoat and fiberglass. You should fix them asap. Water will work it's way under the gelcoat and when it freezes will continue to loosen into a larger area. I doubt you will loose any speed or handling.

Repair - ASAP
The chips tend to spread over time making the affected area grow in size. Faster even in very frigid regions like mentioned above. Water gets in and freezes creating a larger damage area.
