anyone have experience good or bad with them ?

These are fairly new with Gaffrig, I believe they are the Vortech supercharger re-baged by them.

I put an Extreme supercharger on my 502 at the beginning of last summer. At this point I have 170 hours on the system. The system has performed flawlessly for me. My Donzi went from 64 mph/gps to 77 mph/gps. Right before I winterized the boat I got it up to 80 mph/gps on a cool 45 degree day.

Raypanic is correct about the charger itself. It is a Vortech "s" trim charger. They computer designed their own intercooler for the system and it is very efficient although I can't recall the exact temp. drop numbers. They include a reprogrammed ECU that offers great driveability and no soot-on-transom issues. The program includes an alarm if air temps pass 140 degrees (if for instance intercooler got plugged with ingested debris, sand, etc.).

Give Livorsi Marine a call @ 847-548-5900 and plug in extension #223. This is Ron Harris, an OSO member (Cig28SS I think), that helped design the system and also did my install. You will not be disappointed, especially as you fly past other boats with a smile and a wave.

Thanks for the info Tim, I had been getting stuff in the mail about it and was wondering myself. As Livorsi is a top notch company I figured it would have been just as good as you have said. Also may I ask how much boost you are running and a rough price figure, also was it much extra to have them install it?

The system runs at 5-6 lbs of boost. They tried to keep these numbers fairly conservative to sustain engine life.

Cost of the system itself was right around $6,000. I had them install the charger system, boost & fuel pressure gauges and a sea strainer at the same time. I believe I paid for 10 hours labor for the charger system install. The install for me was great as Livorsi Marine is only about 30 minutes from my house.

I have seen both systems; the 502 MPI and the HP500EFI. I like the way they put the intercooler on the MPI. IMHO it should have a decent air flow distribution and pressure drop, given the placement of the supercharger and the position of the throttle body. But the HP500EFI system is kind of weird. In fact all the centrifugal supercharger systems for the HP500EFI engine are kind of weird. Having the throttle body facing forward results in some strange supercharger and/or intercooler positions, and lots of elbows. This is where the top mounted whipplecharger has the edge. Just my $.02.
