Calling all Okies
How is the weather? I am supposed to drive into OK for Christmas and what I am hearing is not good at all. I am coming from Topeka. KS straight down Highway 75 to Collinsville which is north of Tulsa. How does it look???

I'm in NW Arkansas. It's 5 pm right now. We have about 4-5 inches on the ground within the last 3 hours. More expected tonight. Will get worse when it freezes over tonight.

Your roving OSO weather reporter checking in from Oklahoma City. About two inches on the ground right now. It's melting fast. The high tomorrow is supposed to be thirty. If it doesn't make it above freezing, leave plenty early.

Boatless !! Good to here from you ! Merry Christmas!
Obviously you did not read the Merry Christmas wish from me this afternoon. Here is Tulsa (just south of Collinsville) we have about 5 inches right now. They are forcasting another 1-3" tonight though. This is better than the original forecast of 12-14".
It is melting fast right now due to traffic, but will freeze rapidly overnight. I would (contrary to everyone else) leave LATE. This will give the highway dept & traffic a chance to heat up the roadway, spread sand & salt on the bridges and make your trip safer. I would not leave before 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Have a very safe trip & a Merry Christmas ! If needed my cell # in Tulsa is 918-760-1080.... it will be on if assistance is needed.
Have a very Merry. Blessings of the Season to you.

Boatless, Worry not. The State of Kansas has state of the art snow fighting equipment. In their 2000-2001 purchase they bought (114) Sterling Chassis with dump bodies, central hydraulic systems, snow plows, anti-ice tanks, sanders and wing plows. They will be out all night and have hundreds of trucks. We sell the Turnpike Authority basically the same stuff. Slow down and watch for the other guy.

Thanks Okies. I think my trip is going to be off. The family will just have to do Christmas without me. I just talked to my Sis in Collinsville and she said it is still snowing there. My Mother said yesterday that they might close 75 between Bartlesville and Tulsa, which is right where I was headed. I got a new 2002 VW Bug last weekend and I do not think it will make it in the snow there. Thanks for all the info though. It's good to know I got people out there EVERYWHERE watching over me!
