HP3 8100 Vortec
Does anyone know if or when these engines will be available for production boats? How much HP ? From what I'm hearing, they seem to be "The next hot thing"
Or are they still just in testing mode? Thanks, Craig |
I've read 550 hp. I don't know if that is flywheel or propshaft HP.

Check out Powerboat Magazine Sept/Oct. issue:confused: I think, but they did a two-three page article on the next generation motors you are talking about. Wish I knew the month, someone else know which issue it was?
|
Sept, Poker runs america had a good article, i remember 525-550hp, think crank hp tho.
|
Thanks for the info, now I have to try to find that mag:D :D

525 hp @ the prop

There was also a story in the APBA Program, on sale now at Barnes and Nobel or through H2OPerformance.com.

Thanks:) :)

I think its still a ways away for actual production and at first I imagine they'll be limited production. SOme things holding them up is the fact that they do not build drives, so they can sale repowers and for ski boats, etc., but hard to sale the large numbers without havine an entire package, Mercury's bread and butter so to speak.
We will be working with some engine builders on making our own 525 EFI's which will be crate motors that are taken apart, blue printed, packaged, dyno'd and ready to ship, but this is still a bit from production. The ones were working on will have all Motorola 555 ECU's on them. Thanks, Dustin |
The Sept. 2002 issue of Powerboat
has a story about the Vortex HP3 8100 marine motor. If I remember right GM had signed a deal with Innovation Marine to Build the Marine Motors. Might check with them. I know one thing the marine motor with all the extras is HEAVY. Mike J. |
Dustin, Is that a 525EFI N/A and ? then a 700EFI S/C in a crate package ready to drop in?
Now package it to a Bravo Shop or IMCO transom assembly and drive and you have a package to go head-to-head with Mercruiser and sell to manufactures. A Whipple 700hp efi with S/C and B-max drive for the same price as the Merc 500EFI bravo one package. I'd say that's a winner! |

The photos are of the "ETTORE"
Super "V" Twin #75 which raced at the worlds in Key West. The motors are in line HP3 GM Vortex 8100. The front motor faces forward while the rear motor faces aft. They are hookedup to Weismann Transmissions and have carbon Fiber drive shafts that run a pair of Weismann drives. Nigel Hooks 38ft Lucas Oil #7 has the same setup. Watch this thur on speedvision and you will see both boats. I have other photos, Email me and I can send a few. Mike J. P.S. Thanks Michael |

Don't you mean Super V Lite?
Any idea why the conventionally rigged boats in the class are so much faster? It seems like you've got a nifty set-up, but the results are not. (I'm not ripping on you: I just wonder what you think.) |
Catman: I got a Email asking me
"WHY"After the person looked at the photos. I just asked if he had heard that the Wright Brothers had a third brother named CLem who kept asking WHY.....:D :D Mike J. |
