Mike Fiore used to race in Obsession and always admired the ventalated step in Mr Technology. You'll now find the ventalated steps on all quad step 42. I'm not sure if he ever did it to the 37.
By ventalated, I mean an external air supply is vented to the rear of the step via a bunch of 3/4" holes drilled into the rear of the step. This helps to break the vacuum created by the step. Mr T had 4" holes at the waterline on the sides to bring in the air, while OL uses Nacta sp? ducts on the deck. Why more builders don't use this I can understand, its worth a few extra MPH.
I've been on No Discipline a few times now and it always amazes me how the back end keeps lifting with speed, just like a cat. At WOT, a little down trim makes it bite harder and surge forward. Like no other V bottom I've ever been in.
On race day, leading the fleet on a pace lap in this boat plowing over 8 to 10" waves was an amazing exerience. Ask DJD, he raced in it.
