Better off purchasing a hand held GPS, as accurate and can give you location, elevation, distance,......

My 2 cents

But dyno has a RADAR arch and needs to put radar on it to be cool!!

And GPS won't tell you if there's a boat in your path. We boat on Lake Michigan, and fog can roll in suddenly, trapping you in port away from home.

As soon as Karl gets back from Vegas I'll get all the specs on his system we installed on the Powerquest......All i remember about it is that it can track up to 16 targets and compute/alert you of a colision course!!! Full color screen with spilt screen cap.
We also had to custom fabricate a swingaway mount for it so its not in the drivers way if they need to get out in a hurry....its a very trick piece.
And its a Raytheon system i believe

dyno, Karl's boat is a 38 with an Arch. Only 38 PQ I've ever seen with an arch.

I have radar on my mother ship and wouldn't consider traveling with out it. I've had Ratheyon on my last three boats and have had no problems. For the most part I only use my radar when on long trips in open water. It provides me with data that my GPS can't. For instance when traveling in unfamilar waters you may need to maintain a distance of let's say two miles offshore. Just set your range and watch the rings. Ever had to figure out the distance or shape of a thunder head coming your way, I have and was glad I had my radar. How about find a harbor entrance or a buoy in the fog, a gps will get you close but radar will tell you exactly where you are. I can't tell you how many times buoys have been moved or just eliminated from season to season. In those cases your way points are useless. Don't get me wrong I love my GPS as a matter of fact I cary a spare just in case. Just do everyone a favor don't be one of those captains who runs his radar in the marina, it's bad for the brain cells. By the way my GPS is a color unit but I prefer the black and white. You can get more contrast in sunny conditions with a black and white. Good Luck !

Sam
