New 496 Whipple SC

Just wanted to let everybody know were releasing the 496 Mag HO SC systems, heres a picture :D

JGB 12-30-2002 10:12 PM

Looks good, how much clearance is needed above the top of the stock 496? How much power out of a 496 mag and 496 ho? Thanks

Whipple Charged 12-30-2002 11:50 PM

It's 1" lower than stock so no clearance is needed for height. Power on the HO is 620-640 @ 5200 and the Mag is 600-620 @ 5000. Both run 5-6lbs. of boost.

Thanks,
Dustin

boatfreak 12-31-2002 05:56 AM

What about front clearance? I also saw where you have changed pipes on your lower systems and are they avalable now?

Whipple Charged 12-31-2002 02:18 PM

Yeah, we have the the NA cals done and are ready as well, the 525 package is still in development though. Were not ready to sale the exhaust yet as a package, but can do the cal if you put the headers on, standard E top CMI's is what the cal is for. You have to remote mount the oil filter and a bracket has to be made for the power steering, the shift bracket has to be moved and the ECU bracket needs to be supported, so it's somewhat of a pain. CMI is making us a set that has all the provisions needed, and the kit will come with a remote mount oil filter system. This is for the headers only, SC package will not need it unless you change headers which is still under testing as well.

Thanks,
Dustin

Oops, forgot, 2.5" in front clearance, that damn tank is in the way, nothing we could do :(

We have the 120 stats, filters, rev limit program for 87 octane, performance cal for 91 octane with filter/stat, 91 octane, filter/stat/CMI E-top/performance cal. Working on cam for stock exhaust with performance cal, then the 525 package with heads, cam, CMI's, cal.

Thanks,
Dustin

Dustin, Whats The Little Blue Tire Pump For????? Is That How You Get The 5-6psi Boost????

Jeff

EvilTwin 01-03-2003 03:34 PM

That pump comes with the motor (at least the 496's). It goes on the nozzle (little blue colored valve just above it) and you pump it to blow the water out of the engine during cold weather. (not to be used for full winterization applications);)

jb 01-03-2003 03:54 PM

no offense, I am all whipple all the time. I believe in the product and it would be my choice. But...does that picture look busy???
Not the usual works of art I am used to seeing. Or is it the 496 that is busy...

FAST ENOUGH 01-03-2003 04:01 PM

I think it looks very clean. The 496's are just that busy.
:)

Allan4 01-03-2003 06:28 PM

Yup, top half of a 496 stock looks like a road map of LA......

Whipple Charged 01-03-2003 09:14 PM

If you think that looks busy, take a stock plastic cover off an engine and see what is hiding below that. The supercharger actually simplifies things on top.

And trust me, after building the kit, it's far more of a work of art than the other stuff :D

Thanks,
Dustin

Whipple Charged 496 MAG HO !!!!

Well, Im the proud new owner of the first Whipple Charged 496 MAG HO pictured at the top of this thread. The motor is installed in an Advantage 27' Victory.

The motor dyno tested at a little over 600HP and the additional 190HP got me 13 MPH, with 6 lbs of boost. I was running a 22P prop and went up to a 26P Bravo I. I am in the process of getting the 26P labed and expect to another mile or two. The boat currently runs at 73 MPH on GPS @ 5,200 RPM with 50Gal of fuel and 4 people. I have calculated that I am getting about 1.3 MPG.

I had about 70 hours on the motor prior to adding the Whipple and have put on about 20 hours with the new charger. Not only am I happy with the 14 MPH gain, but the hole shot is incredible. This boat now has a completely different personality.

It was a pleasure working with Art, Dustin & everyone at Whipple. This project was a lot of hard work and the end result is a great product. The customer service at Whipple is second to none and when I get a bigger boat and build a bigger motor, I'll Whipple that too !!!!

Thanks Whipple !!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New 496 Whipple SC

I be curious to know how many hours you have on the motor now and how it has been running. By now you might have gotten a new boat.

Hi,

I have heard great things about the Whipple supercharger and would like to uppgrade my Baja 25 Outlaw 496 mag 2005 with one. What should i think about? Some one told me it was not a good idea to do so because of the lack of forged pistons and what not. Really want to get the power and speed. Thanks from Sweden!

You stated "I have calculated that I am getting about 1.3 MPG." Was that before or after the Whipple added?

This is hard to reasurch online. What I did before making up my mind was speak to people who are running these pieces.

Are you in Sweden? Are you going to intall yourself?

I know a 36' Baja here locally that is running twin whipples on 496 mag ho's. This guy runs with the sticks shoved to the stops all of the time. He has not done anything to the pistons or cranks and is running the lower boost. He probably has 200 plus hours on them with no problems. He runs well over 80 mph.

QWKRN-- You cal call Ed Shy @ Clear Lake Power Boat Service in Seabrook, Tx. He has installed several whipples on 496's and can give you all of the info you need on the install and longevity of the engines with them on. His business phone is 281-326-4800.
