securing boat bumpers in engine compartment????

My "new to me" 26ZX has all my gear packed but for the boat bumpers necessary fot those tie-ups, would like to secure them somehow in engine compartment. Any ideas or products out there that work? thanks

Not sure what bumpers are. I use a rack for my fenders. :p :D

They're available online at Overton's I believe. :D

I got a friend that has a 35' Fountain .He had pockets(tubes) made of canvas with velcro top covers that held 2 ea attached to the bulkhead.Works great

Ummmm call em fenders!

Boat bumpers are fenders.I don't know why but thats the tradition!I'd get some aluminum racks made if you can store em away from too much heat.

The last single engine boat I had , I used a rectangular Rubbermaid storage bin along side the engine. Just stood the fenders (bumpers , whatever) up in that. Cheap and easy;)
Worked fine for seven years.:)
Used another on the other side of the engine for the anchor and line.

I use a rubermaid comtainer for anchor and bumpers as well. It's inexpensive and works well.

Just be sure you tie those lines down. I had pockets on my old boat that I'd stuff the bumpers into. Somehow they worked out of the pocket and the lines were draped over the top of the engine. I'm still amazed that they didn't get caught in the belts.

What I did in my 2001 26ZX was get some stainless steel eyes (eyelets) and I attached to to the back seat wall (diamond plate) in the engine compartment and two to the exterior wall, I bungee Two big bumpers in an X (of bungees), no problems at all, I know quite a few ZX tricks for storage.

Did you find the hidden hull storage forward?

Bryan

Thanks Bryan. See you like it over here too and not just on the Donzi board. I found the hidden storage forward but it is full already
I like the idea of the eyelets and bungee. will give it a try. Thanks

buy a boat with twins, you won't have to worry about it:p

BryanTuvell 01-02-2003 05:39 PM

I picked up the eyes at west marine, they are small and pricey, SS and about $1.50 each, then some 3/8 in length SS screws.

I am in the middle of my exhaust install, if I think of it I will snap a photo tomorrow.

SABER, does owning twins mean you do not need storage, maybe not in MI, short seasons there.... LOL

I bought some nylon bags from west marine screwed them to the bulk head in front of the engines ,works great!!but then again I have room in front of the engines!!!

Get some 1" flat aluminum stock from the hardware store and bend up you own.

Some good suggestions...I have the same problem, we use the large fenders so space is scarce. I like the eyelets and bungee cords.....another project for the list!

26ZX Donzi 01-03-2003 09:37 PM

Bryan and others,

I took battery hold down canvas straps and mounted to port side of engine diamond plate. It has worked well so far, but to be honest is kind of a hassle. I would be real interested to see a picture of what you came up with Bryan.

Tim Fitzgerald

p.s. If you guys are looking to get some more speed (80 mph/ gps this fall) out of your 26ZX get in touch with me. The Livorsi Marine supercharger system I put on is awesome!

BryanTuvell 01-03-2003 10:05 PM

Donzi26ZX
I will be buttoning up a new system install Sunday a.m.
I will post my fenders mouted, it is nothing elaberate, but works very well, easy access.
Bryan
