I had a chance to check out the 38 ZR up close at the PRA run in Sarasota last April. What a sweet ride, not quite like anything else out there.

WesSmith 01-02-2003 07:04 PM

Sean and I saw it this afternoon at the show and it is indeed an impressive boat.

I especially liked the fact that you could look in the through the deck hatch and see the construction quality. Really well done.

The picture doesn't do it justice at all.

It may just be me, but the 38 ZR sure looks like a Donzi Criterion that they made around 1979 I believe. I think the Criterion was the slickest looking boat Donzi ever made. It is based on the same hull as the 22 Classic.

I see some family genetics in the old boat passed to the ZR.

Saw it yesterday at the Chicago boat show- very nice boat!

Magicfloat 01-02-2003 07:55 PM

The 38ZR is pretty neat, not a lot of boats out there quite like it. We've run ours in several poker runs and had lots of fun with it,awesome in really rough water. Ours will be in the Birmingham Boat Show Jan 29-Feb 2. If any OSO members plan to come I can supply free passes.

Shanghied Again 01-03-2003 05:03 AM

There is no cabin. You can get access to the "cabin area" via the deck hatches for servicing purposes.

Pete B 01-03-2003 08:28 AM

that is the poker run/race version

The only things under the deck are bulkheads, and lots of them. It is a very strong boat.

The story is that the F2 edition ran 93 mph in testing, so they picked the numer F2-93. Of course now it's number is F2-1;)

I've always wondered if it was difficult docking in a large sitdown boat without help, especially those with tight quarters like Skaters, Gladiators and the ZR.

Magicfloat 01-03-2003 12:34 PM

When I dock my ZR,I raise up from the seat, turn a little sideways with my butt on the armrest. It's really pretty easy and you're then above the canopy.
