About the speeds...It was built as a party boat with a cabin, stereo, carpet, full interior, etc. not as a go fast boat. Although 80 isn't slow, especially thru big water with a boat load of people, gas, food, drinks, etc.

Reasonably priced, good speed for the horsepower that you want, completely custom - get it any way you want.

Lotoparty – A couple of thoughts in no special order.

If 70 mph is enough for you, you might not need a cat. Your going to pay through the nose for insurance because the insurance companies know cats go fast. Actually, if your budget is at all constrained, you better check out the insurance first – it’s going to make you gasp!

It’s going to be really difficult for you to get objective opinions about cats from cat owners. Once someone spends that kind of money on a toy, they are going to come up with every reason they can find to justify their decision. As far as the magazines, you really need to read between the lines. They have to sell advertising to survive and they are smart enough not to bite the hands that feed them!

During my period of research, the major factor was which hull didn’t porpoise in the mid-range speeds. Typically, if they did, what I heard was – no problem, you just throttle through it. Well that’s nice if you have the throttle and don’t mind the maintenance that comes from running your engine at high rpms all the time. What you will find however is that you spend 98% of your time in the mid-range speeds.

As far as my personal experience, I have had a 26’ Daytona by Eliminator for the past 13 months (my only cat experience). I have zero time in any other cats. What I can tell you as fact about my cat is:
* In the 130 hours I have ran it and all the different conditions I have subjected it too, it has never porpoised!
* It takes very little driver skill to keep it stable regardless of how rough the conditions on the lake gets.
* Experienced boaters that have ridden with me have expressed (unsolicited) that it is a very smooth ride.
* After I learned how to properly trim the boat - the times I have launched it into the air, it has flown and landed very safe.
* The canopies are REALLY worth having! (sorry, guess that’s an opinion).
