fountain owners

i just got approved to purchase a 93-32 fever w fresh 500hps just wondering if it is worth all the hype about fountains . have a baja 29 what can i expect, the deal is done if surveyor says yea.any input would be appreciated, p.s wife is pissed.

LPBoater 01-06-2003 07:12 PM

The people who don't own fountains will tell you they are not worth it. The people who own usually really like them. I love mine and wouldn't have anything but a Fountain.

Pantera24 01-06-2003 07:12 PM

Pissed Off wife ?????
Isn't worth the boat..in my opinion.
You'll never enjoy it.

GO4BROKE 01-06-2003 07:17 PM

Nah, after a while they realize they are having fun and all is forgiven.

Jan 01-06-2003 07:23 PM

Best Bud (Curt from the board) has a 91 32ft with twin Crockett 502/610hp. Great boat and will flat out haul A$$, 87-88 gps. Boat is built rock solid.

You can ask him about the 32 non-step, he has owned the boat for 5+ years.

johnnyboatman 01-06-2003 07:44 PM

she isnt that mad she just like the baja, not the beak nose on fountains, if she was real mad we wouldnt be getting it trust me.

SpectreBoy 01-06-2003 07:48 PM

Don't ask next time

Should have just bought it and never mentioned it, Remember "It's easier to get forgiveness than permission".

Make her feel special about the boat,

Gee honey I can't seem to get the glass as clean as you do would ya help me?

You know everyones going to be looking at us in the new boat, maybe you should go buy some new outfits to wear in it.

This boat is so much bigger than the other one, I really need your help backing it into the water, if you'd stand over to the left so I can see you and give me some hand signals that would really help.

Your dad's so smart about mechanical stuff, would you ask him to come look at the boat with us?

Don't do this,

With the bigger boat, now your fat ass sister and your alcoholic mom will have plenty of room to set their fat asses.

Hey Jenny at work said she never rode in a boat this big, do you mind staying home this weekend so she can go?

Since you don't clean the house, you'll have plenty of time to wash MY new boat.

Try not to wear your bikini in the new boat, the way your belly hangs over the bottom part, it really detracts from the beauty of the boat.

Hey I saw an ad for a job in the paper, if you'd go out and do something for the first time in 20 years, maybe we could get some new motors for my boat.

Wonder why that blonde over there is checking us out, damn she looks good.

IDRPSTF 01-06-2003 07:51 PM

p.s wife is pissed.
Nooo! Really?
They are usually so good about these things.

Thats it, Im staying single forever!

johnnyboatman 01-06-2003 07:53 PM

DIAMONDPERFORMA 01-06-2003 08:19 PM

If you don't mind me asking how much are you paying for the 32. I own one and thinking of selling it.

johnnyboatman 01-06-2003 08:38 PM

its a 93 32 with fresh 500hps. The guy says it runs 82 on gps.

Curt 01-07-2003 06:51 PM

Johnny the 32 Fountain is a great boat. I have really enjoyed mine. It comes from the factory with all the little performance goodies (k-planes, hydraulic steering, full complement of gaffrig gauges, electric bolsters etc.) as part of the package. You don't have to add anything...unless you want more power! I like feeling like I am part of a rich racing heritage. You can't watch a boat race without seeing a Fountain of some type either in front or near the front. Fountain has virtually all the v-bottom speed records which makes for fun "bench racing" with your pals. It's kind of like owning a chevy and living off of Jeff Gordon's triumphs. The boat is rock solid. I added a couple of drink holders last year and broke a drill bit off in the cockpit trying to mount them! I'm telling you these boats are tough. As far as the size goes, I posted on another thread recently that the 32 is just big enough to take on some pretty rough water and just small enough to be able to trailer without a 2500 or 3500 series truck. As far as the wife goes...the Fountain will get you a girlfriend! :D Good luck.

johnnyboatman 01-07-2003 07:00 PM

the guy has owned it since 94, it came w/502s, in 01 the guy had 500hps built, they used factory intake & carbs, roller cams, roller rockers imco exhaust, put bigger vaves in etc. he is asking 45.000w/myco trailer im not neg. im giving what he ask.some may think im stupid but its my money.

Curt 01-07-2003 07:19 PM

Assuming it's clean and runs great, it sounds like a deal to me.

audacity 01-07-2003 08:48 PM

i think your going to like it!!!!

mopower 01-07-2003 09:17 PM

Johnny,
It's January...think with your BIG head. Try it before you buy it.
I know people who bought boats off season and took peoples words as to conditions. Bad move in every case.
I went the same route in 2000. Put a deposit on a Formula in early March in New Hampshire. Sale hinged on good survey AND sea trail when the lake thawed. Mid April the survey came back "questionable". Surveyor found stress cracks in the bottom I didn't see when I was there in March with snow on the ground.
Just think how pissed mama will be if she finds out you bought a turd:rolleyes:
Oh yeah, I passed on that boat and found one nicer in June 2000 in Virginia. Still got it and mom loves it:p
Good luck ,Dude:)

RacerX@LMP 01-07-2003 11:55 PM

I have owned one and it all depends on what you want out off your boat. 93 has no steps so you are not going to get the speed of new boat. I f you are approved for that year you should look at a newer boat go out longer on financing with the same payment you are looking at now. A 93 boat is bound to have some problems and you could end up spending 10 to 15 k over the next year fixing it. Buy a new boat right with the new lower prices and you will spend more time in the water and less time in the shop.

puder 01-08-2003 12:07 AM

i saw a brand spanking new 35 executioner with twin 496HO at the NYC boat show for 120k. That is a hell of a deal on a new boat.

for all teh *****ign abotu fountains they are pretty nice. I think I might even be able to get used to the left hand throttles.

Helmwurst 01-08-2003 07:30 AM

Ticked Wife

When I sold my 32 Baja and bought a Fountain (35) no step, my wife was ticked because the cabin was so much smaller. After the first weekend , she says, "this boat rides a lot better than the other one". She never used the cabin any way except to store all the crap that they always seem to never use on the boat anyway.

baja27 01-08-2003 08:07 AM

Well it all depends on how you want to use the boat!
Fountain is going to be faster.
Baja much more space, and cabin, but slower
That 32 is really a 29 don't forget!
Plus being a 93 it will be much harder to sell it when you want to move up!
Good Luck

HELFROZOVR 01-09-2003 07:01 PM

My husband and I are fountain owners. Have a 32 with 500HP's. Had a 272 Baja.(Nice boat). We liked our Baja, but truly love our Fountain. You have the comfortable ride plus speed when you want it. Good luck, hope you find another one.

But don't forget that 32 is really only a 29! LOL  The Baja was really a 51! :eureka: He he ha ha!!!

mopower 01-09-2003 10:14 PM

Johnny,
Who was wishy washy? The owner or surveyor?
If the owner is getting:crazy: maybe you should pass. Better to err on the side of caution. I know I was a little pi$$ed after I got back a "questionable" survey after spending $325 for the survey and driving 7 hrs each way plus gas , tolls , motel and meals, but I figured it could have saved me a lot more in the long run:cool:
And besides...if I couldn't afford the extra $325...I couldn't afford the boat:( .
Did learn a lot. Used the survey to check out the next one myself. Carefully examined all the bad spots from the first boat. Got myself a real "Creampuff".
Oh , btw ,I looked for over 9 months to find mine. And looked at some real $hitters along the way.

1st time out we had it in Destin Fla. wasn't used to the length, tryed to back in to a slip, the wind took me all over. So I idled around for 3 hours waiting for the wind and sun to die down. Went right in then

johnnyboatman 01-10-2003 06:51 PM

the owner was scared to have it surveyed, red flag. but he is telling me now a guy in new york offered 12.000 more than asking price.B.S the guy didnt have a survey done. the guy that bought it probily bought a money pitt, since the owner was scared of a survey.

Elite Marine 01-10-2003 07:01 PM

Why are you buying a Fountain? (Just kidding!!!!!)

Pass on this one and don't look back. Sounds like this guy is hiding something. I assume, and hope he's not on the board.

You may want to warn others of this guy. Where's the boat located? There may be another unsuspecting buyer looking at this boat soon.

Curt 01-11-2003 07:49 AM

Steve, that is a beautiful boat. Is a 40' hull a 42' without the swim platform? What year is it, 88? It looks brand new! I am hoping to keep mine looking that good. Lots of wax and lots of rubbing.
