This had to hurt

check out this formula - musta been painful to do that to the boat.http://usauctions.com/index.cfm?fuse...mInfo&bid=3208

PhantomChaos 01-07-2003 01:19 PM

Did it flip off the trailer or what? A low bridge? Collision?

Sydwayz 01-07-2003 01:25 PM

It looks like a rollover of some type.

bouyhunter 01-07-2003 01:30 PM

to me that looked like body impact against the windsheild - also the way the bolster is crushed. - doesn't look like a good saturday afternoon spin in the harbor.

Tantrum 01-07-2003 01:32 PM

Id say the trailer went over. The gouges on the top by the rear hatch could either be from a stap or where they grabbed it w/ the tow truck to right it.
Either way a reeeaallllyy bad day.

riskybusiness 01-07-2003 02:18 PM

Definitely musta' rolled off the trailer.:(

Ron P 01-07-2003 02:48 PM

Nah, the seats would have been torn up.

I'd say a bridge closed on it and pushed it straight down until the bridge went back up.

Very strange damage.

Tantrum 01-07-2003 03:04 PM

Id buy the bridge idea except for the skeg on the drive is broken.
Maybe the water was very shallow.

We almost got squashed years and years ago in a 1970's something Dolphin. The boat had awful shifting problems and we were trying to hold our position in front of a railroad bridge in the Pt Pleesant inlet. Boat stalled and the rip started pulling us right into the bridge..pretty bad. Then we hear the, ding ding ding, oh sh!t!!! Like a big monster trying to bite us. Although I was young and it probably remember it to be worse than it was I bet I could pass a lie detector test it was within inches. Ron P Im sure you know the bridge well.

obnoxus 01-07-2003 03:07 PM

Very strange,,, how do you crush a bloster without tearing it,,, something had to drop on it,,,,,, maybe a rack storage accident?

freckles 01-07-2003 03:07 PM

My guess is a mishap at a rack storage place--either the boat above it fell or a forklift came down on it or the forklift dropped a boat on it. Something like that.

mr_velocity 01-07-2003 03:09 PM

Bad forklift operator in dry storage. Got her into the rack and hit up instead of down while talking to another customer.

I did witness a forlift accident, or should I say dumb accident. The operator didn't have the boat far enough back on the forks. Went rippen through the boat yard and when he went to stop the forklift stood up on end. Boat when right to the ground. Our fine park service employees at work. Did I mention that our fine county buys marinas with all the extra money it beats out of us?

MitchStellin 01-07-2003 03:10 PM

I think that is Troutlys boat. I remember him saying his dash came loose and he zip tied it. Looks like a little more than the dast there Officer:D I would say he forgot he was hooked up and tried to pull in his garage:eek:

Smitty 01-07-2003 03:18 PM

I say it rolled sideways off of a forklift. Look at the angle the seats are bent. Also the skeg doesn't look broken. It is just down in the weeds.

LIOPA 01-07-2003 04:58 PM

Looks like something big fell on it. Could not see any scrapes or tears, just cracks and compressed upholstery.

puder 01-07-2003 05:23 PM

i'm gonna put my vote in for travel lift mishap.

i wonder hwo much tehy want for it. Assuming the only structural damage is on the rear top deck that isn't to much of a repair. Nota small job but if the hull is in good shape that could be a nice boat again.

Ron P 01-07-2003 05:44 PM

Yup I know the Railroad bridge all too well. Very narrow (about 25 feet) and at high tide it has less then three feet of clearance to the water.

However, I'll by the rack storage accident too. Something came down on it or the boat went up into something.

outlawinil 01-07-2003 06:34 PM

ok I gonna go with a roof collapse on it.

outlawinil 01-07-2003 06:38 PM

the groove by the deck lid and near the rear seat looks like the right distance for roof trusses in a metal building

puder 01-08-2003 11:26 AM

i e-mailed about it :D I might even go check it out while in Florida.

there response is as follows:
The damage happened when the high dry storage rack it was on collapsed,
the hull is OK, the damage is to the deck, seats, windshield engine
cover etc..

wannabe 01-08-2003 12:13 PM

Ouch!

This boat needs a lot of work. I also did not like the looks of the outdrives/transom based on it being only a 99'. I don't think this boat was well cared for. My guess is it would have to be taken back to the factory and the deck around the engine hatch replaced. i would guess the reapirs will be at least $ 30k.

Wannabe

puder 01-08-2003 12:59 PM

you think that much for glass work?

I know replacing the bolsters wouldn't be cheap they are McLoeds and they are 5k each.

as for overall condition there are some stains on the hull and teh drives which don't look some happy.

BAJA WILL 01-08-2003 01:41 PM

Looks like someone left their boat lift on and walked away??? I'v seen it happen on smaller boats?? But with the dash cracked the way it is, most likely a forklift drop:(

blown formula 01-08-2003 01:48 PM

Puder,
You better look again. The top 1/2 the hull is broken in at least 4 places in addition to the dash console torn up.
The top deck is permanently fastened with Plexus to the bottom 1/2. The dash component is part of the cockpit insert I believe. With the dash console crush like that, the refridgerator & cabinets will also be "toast" I bet. Both sides of the hull intakes were broken also, possibly replaceable but wht damage underneath? The front deck hatches are also damaged wnd I'm sure more damage inside. The paint job on this I believe is their optional very hi-dollar ($15K ?) I bet the factory would not even want to touch it, especially for only $30K.
Still, if the price was right and a lot of patience......
don't let Too Old see this!!

puder 01-08-2003 02:34 PM

he he i see repariable and i start drooling. Its the only way I could get a 38'

I f i only had a storage facility like too old. Oh well i need to finish my current project first.

Audiofn 01-09-2003 08:36 AM

Puder what were they saying that they wanted for it???

Jon

Curt 01-09-2003 10:47 AM

And I get pissed when I get a scratch from a dock!

formula31 01-09-2003 11:30 AM

I want the old bolsters out of it if somebody does buy it.

puder 01-09-2003 11:32 AM

the bidding hasn't opened yet. They said it will bea few weekes befor eit does. BUT it will begin at $1

blown formula 01-09-2003 11:38 AM

Nope.... those are MY bolsters!!!  :)

bouyhunter 01-09-2003 07:40 PM

I imagine Too Old will be done with that mistress soon - good project for him..... From everything i've read I'm starting to wonder if he's afraid of the water and just likes working on boats hehe

Ron P 01-09-2003 09:52 PM

Puder, what's with your current project? Are you gonna race with OPA this summer?

puder 01-10-2003 10:20 AM

with some luck. I ahve all my parts I just need a place to work on it now. If i had an indoor garage big enough i'd pull it inside and finish it up now. But it seems like i'll be waiting for the weather to improve before I can put her back together.

There is a chance i might try to get something together with mike merola and his new race boat. :D

I can tell you for sure i WILL 100% be racing formula 2000 cars this summer. Thats already been setup.

BURNSMAZZ 01-10-2003 11:07 AM

I know a dude that had a Sea Ray Sundancer dropped on his Jeep Cherokee, that was pretty grim.
