Not bad T2X, but not bad enough I'm afraid.

I hear rumors...

The business end.

(Anyone sense this might get just a weee bit outta hand? hehehe)

JaayTeee 01-09-2003 05:32 PM

He will have trouble getting
that boat out of the water that
high.
It's not that rough on the course:D ;)

MrMagloo 01-09-2003 05:40 PM

At this rate, who needs water?

JaayTeee 01-09-2003 06:08 PM

:eureka:

I'm getting a big ass radar arch,
gonna take some roof sheeting off
the dock, screw it to the arch, put
a couple of flame throwers on the
swim platform, now were talkin!!

tachyon 01-09-2003 06:15 PM

I'd go with larger diamater props...

tripps 01-09-2003 08:10 PM

Hey T2X,do those props spin in or out???? :D :D :D tripps

Gordo 01-09-2003 11:41 PM

If it is at least 22' long, bring it on!

I don't know if you guys get it.....or are joking. That drag boat is that high in flat calm water.....at the STARTING LINE. The "leap" you are looking at is torque induced. This boat will be at 235 mph while Johnny and the Bacardi are still planing off.......or starting motor #2......not to mention Callan, Jet Set and Warby (and Miss Bud) "spooling up".

The drag boat is by far the right gun for the gun fight.

You play with the Devil ................be prepared for the horns.

birdog 01-10-2003 08:20 AM

Thats kinda what i thought.......He just nailed the throttle and
it jumped like that !!!!!!!!!! Now THATS torque !!!!!!!!

Whats with the twin props ??? Can't get one to hook up ?

Wally 01-10-2003 08:23 AM

If i take my 67 Impala with Jato unit strapped on the back, start driving through town on Highway 54 and hit the ignition, fly off the road and over the course at 300+mph......would i win? :D or Does one need to phisicly need to be touching the water? :D LOL!!

Twin props make a LOT of sense......It effectively eliminates the "torque lean" from that monster's engine........ who cares about a little parasitic HP loss?

That makes about as much sense as the rest of the event.......
The whole concept of the "world's fastest pleasure/offshore boat" with fixed drives, a rearward rudder, canopy and oxygen, professional throttleman, and a million dollar+ corporate sponsored budget.........is pretty wacky too!

There is no limit to how far runaway beer talk can go....................

These boats are pretty amazing! Check out this vid...0-200 in a few seconds.

Somebody better warn the Busch
clan about this, I'm shure they will have
a trump card somewhere;) :D :D

birdog 01-10-2003 10:22 AM

aaaaahh.....Now i get it ! counter rotating to eliminate torque
twisting them up on there sides....

HP loss.........I guess these guys are running top fuel motors...
a couple hp here and there won't be noticed !:D

MrMagloo 01-10-2003 10:28 AM

T2x,

Actually, as I understand it, Warby was planning to spool up on the Mississippi somewhere near Memphis. :D

IDRPSTF 01-10-2003 12:21 PM

I sold Troy Ferry his first Offshore boat this past year. He was one of last years champs in alcohol Drag boats. Needless to say the sea trail in the offshore boat was fun. 25 Baja outlaw in the pacific on a BIG day. I kapt asking "Are you scared yet"
"Nope go faster!!!" "How about now?" "Nope, Go Faster!"
Finally his friend in the back yells.."Im Scared, Im Scared" I talked to him last month. He whippled it!

jb 01-10-2003 12:25 PM

that would be funny...a boat less than 20' winning top gun!!!!!!

Intolerant1 01-10-2003 02:26 PM

I was thinking of entering in a canoe. I need a giant rubber band ( think Roadrunner cartoons) tied to a tree on each side of the water and a tug boat. The human balloon launcher.

Exactly. A boat like this would be destroyed by the time it got to the radar gun, if it made it to the radar gun...
Besides, the classes start at a minimum 22' in length and go up.

OBNOXUS21 01-10-2003 04:51 PM

I say someone puts a beak on it and a swim platform, only to run the last 1/4 mile and win top gun this year.
Wouldn't that qualify?
I'd be rooting for it ;)

RonS 01-10-2003 05:32 PM

Gordo heres a thought though, with the kind of acceleration those
boats have you could take it real easy for the first part of the run, and then nail it the last 300 yards going into the radar trap and probably get enough speed to win the top gun award. It would still be a little scary but I think it would be possible.

JaayTeee 01-11-2003 07:03 AM

I had my wisdom teeth jerked out
yesterday, and in my drug induced coma,
this "vision" came to me: the Busch clans
answer.

Kenny Bernsteins top fueler.

Sponsons added to each side, right
in front of rear wheels.

Front wheels and spindles removed,
replaced with snowmobile ski's and
spindle's, noodle's were attached to
ski's for additional floatation.

Rear tires had a deep, extended paddle
track off of a snowmobile attached to them.

Wheely bars were replaced with a fixed
drive shaft, running off the back of the
ring gear, turning a prop, opposite rotation
of the engine ( counteract engine torque)

Then the drugs started wearing off:D :D ;)

jt.

100th post:D :D :D

Gordo 01-11-2003 10:50 AM

Better living through Modern Pharmaceuticals !!!

RonS,
I'm sure that would be possible. I'm not sure if they could get to the "Top Gun" speeds unless they happen to get lucky and get some really smooth water for their run. Problem is, do they make a drag boat larger than 22'?
Either way, it would take a HUGE set of nads, even if you cruised half way thru and stuck it the last 100 yards or so.

Reindl Powerboats 01-11-2003 01:22 PM

T2X,
Great Shot!

I do not have much info yet, but a guy here in town is trying to break 400mph and we are going to let him display it here at the race June 14-15, if he so wishes. I will keep you posted.

Gordo:

There is nothing magic about 22 feet. That hydro at 22 feet would still be smaller than an unlimited light. The boat pictured will do 230 +.......in a quarter mile. He could open it up whenever he felt like it. He might do 0 to235 to 0 to 235 twice on the LOTO course. I've raced and driven boats ranging from kneel down outboard hydros to Offshore Cats.....and built the latter. Offshore boats in certain instances (like this) are vastly oversized, clumsy, and out of their league.

Deal with it.......sometimes The Emperor has oversized clothes.....and big clay feet.

Actually, in this case yes there is.
A top Fuel drag boat can do 300mph in 50 feet for all I care.
Problem is, all classes start at 22' and go up from there.
SO, If someone brings an enlarged version of a Top Fuel drag boat, that's at least 22 feet long, I'm sure he will spank his class and possibly take Top Gun honors.

deal with THAT !!! ;)

mcollinstn 01-12-2003 11:05 AM

Yeah,
I was wondering why nobody had thrown a top fuel boat into the shootout...

Gordo.......You could stretch a drag boat to 22 feet easily....I don't know how long the one pictured is....but it is probably close to 20 feet ....and a couple of feet won't make a serious change in performance....except to make it span better..... Since Dave Scott, et al were ready to run in December on flat calm water.......... there is no reason why this boat couldn't either run early in the AM or wait for calm conditions. Remember, he only needs 4 or 5 seconds for an acceleration run.......AND.....if he is not accelerating like a cannon shell....the boat will get in a LOT less trouble (i.e. Any boat is far more stable cruising at 210 than accelerating through that speed en route to God know's what top speed at ballistic levels.)

Finally, I am not advocating this scenario for LOTO, I am merely pointing out what appears to me to be yet another re-invention of the speed wheel. What the LOTO shootout seems to have accomplished, after all the hyperbole settles, is a unique way to quadruple the cost of going fast ......on a lake.

T2x............... looking at the big picture.
