Gearhead99,
My dad had a 1960 17' Thompson and a 40 Evinrude then upped it to a new 75 Evinrude in 1963 and a blistering 33 mph DAYam!
You're right...those were the days:)

Actually I taught myself ,along with physics101 and a USPS course somewhere along the way.
The ramp I use has a nasty tide running one way or the other almost constantly. Its on the outside of a bend and I have amazed a few people comming in there.;)

Dad taught me the basics as a kid. I have honed my skills over the years. When my father goes out with me, he likes to tell people he taught me everything I know about boating. Including when I put my 24' boat in a 25' tie off. No sweat I tell him!!!! But he did NOT teach me that. Time and practice have taught me that. And I am by no means done learning what is needed to be the best boater on the water.

My dad taught me the basics but when I moved to Maryland I was about 12 and all the guys that lived around me had Hydrostreams and I had a little 12 ft with a 10hp. After hanging out with these guys for a summer they started to let me drive thier boats and thats were I learned how to drive go fast. As for backing up trailers that happend on my grandmothers farm with the little John Deare tractor and a home made garden trailer. Would practice doing that for hours but I sill learn something new everytime I take the boat out.

After spending my days living in Florida hanging with my buddies, drinking at the boat ramp and the marina, I learned what not to do. I always go with knowledge and feel.

If you ever have time. Anywhere you are. Go down to the boat ramp. Take your favorite beverage and find a place to sit. And laugh your azz off. Watch people try to put boat and jet skis in and out of the water.:D
