Amt cats any good?

How are thay in 3/4 foot waves? Thay shure are priced wright.

Intolerant1 01-17-2003 06:09 PM

Is that 3/4 foot waves or 3 to 4 foot waves ;)

Sea-Dated 01-17-2003 07:36 PM

they'll do well in both 3/4' chop and 3-4' waves...look at their record!

Dredgeking 01-17-2003 08:27 PM

they thumped melon in SBI.

NASTY HABIT 01-17-2003 08:56 PM

am sure Ryan will chime in when he sees this ...I was impressed with it at the Sarasota run it was quite calm out so I cannot really comment on the 3-4 foot handling first hand .but seems as though they have been proven on the race course...twin 2.5 + 5 people and a full tank = 90 not too shabby...we did manage to launch it once or twice...level and smooth...I'm not real familiar with driving cats but the boat handled very nicely for me...of course the throttleman was awsome.......

The AMT can run wide open in 3-4 as was stated above. A boat rigged right with 300's should get you to around 110MPH. The boats are built in Sarasota so not too far away. There is a boat in the mold right now that is going to California at the end of Feb. to be rigged out there and run at Havasu. As of now another boat that is for sale will be built right after that. At the Miami SBI race this year AMT finished 1,2&4th I think. An AMT has won the National Championship the past 3 years running. If you need any other info feel free to contact me at 941-915-1447.

mpally 01-18-2003 12:46 AM

Are these new molds? Do they have a website?

NASTY HABIT 01-18-2003 05:12 AM

it was Mr Beckley......

Ryan Beckley 01-18-2003 07:10 AM

The hull mold and race deck ,were tooled on a CNC machine by Doug Wright. The pleasure deck was tooled using the race deck then tooled normally. www.amtpowerboats.com

later 01-18-2003 08:15 AM

i was on one of the pleasure versions this year at LOTO shoot out. had 300's i believe, and the boat it nothing short of amazing.
i would say 3-4's is not a problem. We were running in the 90's in some nasty stuff and it was just dancing. it was a great time and i appreciate Andy Trauth taking me out for the spin.

you ask about a cat a while ago, then you might want a center console(i think i remember you saying that) and now a cat again...... i know, just get both and hell keep your bad ass velocity too!

Here's a nice AMT at TNT. Could have a sweet 110mph boat for way under 100K, if outboard's are your thing.

mpally 01-18-2003 12:55 PM

Are they only rigged with outboards?

mmo jo 01-18-2003 01:21 PM

That I dont know. Or can you get them with 1/4 canapies

Ron P 01-18-2003 02:08 PM

Gee they went all out on that web site.

Ryan Beckley 01-18-2003 04:44 PM

The inboard model is in the works, but if you went for a ride in the OB you wouldn't want I/O. The full canopy 2/4 seat or open cockpit are the onle 2 ways they come. The web site definatley needs more. Watch for a full blow POWERBOAT test in the next issue or two.

Ryan Beckley 01-18-2003 05:31 PM

For 118,000.00 you get on the traile 300X's and all the bells and whistles.

mmo jo 01-18-2003 06:24 PM

So your telling me that an amt will run through big water (3-4 ft) faster than a skater or a spector . Ill tell you the pice is wright. I now have a 390 velocity and its fast for its class but Im still tired of getting my ass wiped buy cats. And in fort myers the water verry rarely gets larger than 2ft. but what when your w.f.o and you hit a 4ft boat wake.?

NASTY HABIT 01-18-2003 08:06 PM

enjoy your flight.......we will be touching down momentarily:)

Ryan Beckley 01-18-2003 08:33 PM

MMO JO YES, A 28 Skater would be faster in FLAT water but would cost 20-30K more. An AMT will run around the same speed or faster than a Spectre. Give me a call if you wanna come up and see the new boat in the mold. About POWERBOAT they haven't run the boat with 300x's yet. They also only write what they are told by the builders about the options and acc. the prices in PB alway seem alittle high to me. I was just talking to another customer about a 300X boat and it will start lower than 118.

Maximus 01-19-2003 10:50 AM

Sounds like a challange?

Hey guys ,

just read through the thread, interesting. The AMT's look pretty cool like small versions of an MTI (to me). MMojo I've seen you at work!!!and I know you like the rough stuff. Stick with big blocks and at least 5 more feet of boat (just to be safe). Remember when those poker runs start how messy the water is and how happy your throttle hand gets :p . .

You would be coming out of a very fast deep- v and are going to want to run at least as fast right away 85-90. One mistake in a boat that size with a couple of passangers could be disasterous

Ryan is an experienced cat driver and I know he will agree that it will take at least one season to get your (mmojo) bearings together in "ANY" cat. The last poker run he handled the AMT beautifuly, However I know he had his hands full.
I drove a 28 skater w/ 2x 2.5's several weeks ago and it wasn't anywhere near as forgiving as my 36. Bad to the bone, fast, on the edge, not for beginers would be how I described the experience.

Ryan, Now about that little challange!!!

Wait a second ....didn't Dan Lawrence down in Sarasota already settle that issue????

:D :D

mmo jo 01-19-2003 01:05 PM

maximus is your new boat done yet? Take my 390 on trade on your old cat?

Ryan Beckley 01-19-2003 03:33 PM

The only time I ran against Dan I had 5 people and full of fuel and he was slightly faster. Dan's boat runs very well.

eMotiondriver 01-19-2003 04:11 PM

AMT's along with Motion are the best in the rough stuff.
And the Skater's and the rest seem to be alittle better in the flat water.

Gary B. has made the rough water Cats run just like the rest in the flat with both AMT and Motion in the past and present, so who knows what boat is the best.

My Guess, ask GARY....:eureka:

mmo jo 01-20-2003 07:23 PM

Thnk you for all the good info.

I believe this is the boat that is headed for West Coast Rigging & Marine in So. Cal. The owner of the company used to rig for DCB and now has started his own company. He said he was very impressed with the AMT when he went to the factory last week, and is looking forward to rigging the boat.

Thank you very much for all the good info.

This is last year Miami Boatshow boat. It was also in Powerboats 100 MPH shootout. It was picked by one of the editors as there favorite tested. It is currently offered for sale by TNT and on OSO. It is a great buy for the price. It needs minor cosmetic Fiberglass work on the transom.

Only one has been flipped. It was the Supreme Marine in New orleans worlds this year. It was during the race the were inside a bigger boat in the turn with the tunnel tab boan an did roll over, no damage to the boat. It would be tough to blow one over.

mmo jo 01-23-2003 07:39 PM

The price is right !
