Only in Mahattan!!!

Found this article in the NY Post. This restaurant, DB Bistro Moderne, got the idea to upgrade their $29 hamburger and make a $50 hamburger.

(Ingredients: Meat{3 part sirlion, 1 part chuck}, Foie Gras, fresh tomato, ground horseradish, fresh Provencal black shaved truffles, red wine-braised short ribs with preserved truffles & root vegetable dice, red onion, curly chicory & tomato comfit, parmesian & onion roll)

Any one hungry?

For $50, it better be good.

I found the alternative article (on the same page) comical.

Too rich for your taste? Try McD’s
By BRADEN KEIL

Chef Daniel Boulud’s new $50 burger may have ravenous truffle-lovers raving, but Gus Mendez would rather have Mickey D’s – and $45.

The Tourist from Philly was chomping down on a double chomping down on a double cheeseburger at McDonald’s on Sixth Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets when he heard about the most expensive burger in New York.

“I guess the economy ain’t that bad,” said Gus, whose meal deal cost less than $5 and came with fries and a coke. “I could feed ten people for the price of that burger.”

And he didn’t even have to fork over a 20 percent gratuity.

As for the atmosphere, Gus’ five bucks didn’t buy him much.

Daniel Boulud’s DB Bistro Moderne boasts a clubby feel, soft lighting, fine linens and French-made china.

Mickey D’s has plastic furniture, fluorescent light, biodegradable wrappers and an ATM machine with a 99-cent charge. While Gus was wolfing down his meal, a fight broke out between two patrons.

But when it comes to ingredients, nothing rolls off the tongue like “Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun.”

The initial price was $41.00. It's a sellers market, supply and dmand :D :D :D CNN sprung the story last week and now the price has jumped up to $50.
There must be all sorts of cameras outside the store.
Someone tell Puder to give one a test bite..:D :D :D :D

The $41 hambuger is from the Old Homestead restaruant.

I guess, he who is the most expensive shall survive in NYC.

That's insane...I'll take a regular 5 dollar hamburger over that monstrosity any day. Too much crap in there for my tastes.

What the hell are Foie Gras and truffles anyway?

Ehhh, I probably don't want to know anyway! :D

I don't know what any of that crap is. I don't mind spending alot of money on a dinner. But, it aint gonna be a cheeseburger.

chuckbeecher 01-18-2003 03:31 PM

And don't forget the $14.00 martini to go with it!!!

Portabello truffels cost over $400 dollars a pound.  :puppy:

trev-one 01-18-2003 03:56 PM

baja daze
foie gras is fattend goose liver ($25 to $30 a lb)
and truffels are exotic mushrooms that run any where from
$250.00 to $600.00 a lb ....for white or black and i am sure
daniel uses only white which are better...the cost to make the
burger is around $35.00 so they have to sell it high to make any kind of money.. if you know food ..it is worth it...:D :D :D :D
