Default Moved to GD $1,000,000.00 winner take all.....

I have moved this post to gd to get more of an audience.

$1,000,000.00 Winner Take All....Thats right one million dollars!!

Now that I have everyone's attention I know there has been alot of talk over the last couple of years to bring back long distance endurance racing.

How does everyone feel about getting with the APBA and sanctioning a Miami-New York Cannonball run. Everyone pay an agreed upon entry fee, run what ya brung, and major exposure in all medias. With the right marketing and using $1,000,000.00 being the target for th ultimate prize, maybe, just maybe it could be pulled off.

So please vote yes or no to get a feel.

LOL...........

Sounds cool, but how many would go for it? It will take many duckets to do that.

It would take CUBIC dollars, not flat dollars to enter and participate. Also, along the coast of NC and SC, how many gas stops are really out there?

I think it would depend on how much an entry fee was
Cause like who is going to put up a million bones?
Has to come from the participants
so entry fee would be skyscraper high
I would love it though
but also not many boats would finish this run I dont think
would be kick ass though
If I had the time off of work
Had the money for entry fee
money for FUEL
I think I would love to but also would want to drive boat home on trailer assuming I actually MADE it and finished

Sean, Kick ass idea bro,

Jason

$10,000 from 25 entrants and the balance from race and TV sponsorships.

well #1 I dont have 10 grand to fork over for a race, but if I did and was independantly wealthy, and had the time off of work
Oh HELL yeah I would be in
I would assume for something like this a tech inspection would be mandatory but I would do it for kicks
NOT to try to win, hell how many supercharger and Skaters and **** would show up with twin and triple 1000's and staggered 1200's
Dude me and my baja would be out there for the Little guys team.
so what is it sort of a poker run type or heats and stuff for some more level competition or is it just flat out leave now and who ever pulls into Marina at finish line first wins?
so this would more or less be about speed?

Preplotted course or sort of go where you want type?

I agree that it would be cool, but as much as I like the "run what you brung" concept, there are a few "big boys" (ie: Copeland, Bacardi, Callan, etc) that would dominate.

You would also have to have some smaller classes, or you will never get enough boats to enter in order to reach the million mark and get the coverage required to bring sponsors. Prize money for them could be smaller, maybe just a little more than the entry fee.

It is a great idea if you can make the numbers work. Here is a race that a Batboat could win over Pier 57 simply by not breaking.

Exactally
I think best shot would be a newer properly broken in sort of light 33-35 footer with twin 500 HP's
The big huge blower engine boats run the risk of blowing something up
The smaller boats could not deal with some of the offshore weather (you go from NY to Miami or Miami to NY, your bound to run into some ROUGH stuff) but the 40+ boats might have too much weight to them with mild NA engines and not run as fast as the smaller same HP boats.

I think what Sean is sort of shining on here is this is a PERFECT showing for a 36-41 Apache with twin NA Merlins in the 650 or so range with #3's on it
Ya know what
He is right
Ill be dollars to donuts that an apache 41 with twin 650's or there abouts (Naturally Aispirated of course) would probably win this if not give the big huge blown engine cats and stuff a run for the money,
Nothin like an apache with a challenge
