After an experiance with KazaLite i'm looking for blocking software. I kept seeing where my 'puter was accesing the internet on programs I didn't recognize.....found out it was Kaza and that it opens your computer up for everyone to use !!! Yes, I have a Norton firewall with a router but it still didn't block. It took forever to clean ny PC of Kaza !!!! Wardey

Hey Wardey

I don't have the answer to your question but was wondering what happened to your wall mounted aquarium? Is it finished and stocked?

Kazaa is a site where you can download music while cheating the writers and musicians out of their well earned royalties.

Kazza is a file sharing site like napster was. My son put me on it to download some football songs for last weeks Buc's game but I did not know that the other users can get into my computer. Pretty scary stuff. You almost have to disconnect the cable line to stay safe anymore. I had to go into DOS and deleat the file to remove it from my computer. Windows could not deleat the program!!! If you want to eliminate "spyware" and "scumware", I have found Adaware to work very well. It is free and is available at this website:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

My son was home from college over the holidays and visited numerous sites that I wished he hadn't on my computer. I noticed at dramatic decrease in performance and checked the history file and saw where he had been. Then I just ran adaware and it recognized and eliminated 27 different spyware programs and my performance was back to normal. I run Windows XP home addition and have had no problems with it.

For what it's worth the only files that you share with other users are the media files that you choose to share. They would not get vital info or operating system access. Kind of a generic folder sharing that is non evasive to your system.
Is it worth all the other headaches (pop ups) and performance issues:rolleyes: everyone has a different opinion on this! not to mention that it stealing from the artists.
With that said I have to go need to download another song:p (just kidding)

Make sure its not running in the system tray. If the program is completely closed it wont access the network server. Look for the little ICON near the clock or hit CTRL ALT DEL to see if the program is open. If it is, then just close it.

Firewalls won't help for a properly installed program that is just doing it's thing.

Music Industry Fighting Back

Here's some info for anyone using Kazza or other P2P networks. The music industry is starting to fight back by creating or changing files so that they are corrupt and then putting them out on the net. The result of this is you get bad files when you download and it takes more bandwith and multiple downloads to get the songs you want. It seems like this is just a first attack in the RIA's offensive. Here are some links on this.

I use Kazza and WinMX alot.. I actually end up buying MORE cd's after downloading songs from the web!... I get one or two of the artists songs, like them and then go find the CD so i can hear more of their stuff. While I MAY be a minority on this, I dont think that they are hurting as bad as they say!

You can set the Kaazalite settings to NOT allow sharing from your computer.

wwwTOPDJcom 01-24-2003 09:26 PM

Your using the wrong KAZZA lite you need the hacked striped version NO spyware any your in control of what is shared
read up at the site below , Trust me Im an IT professional
and was the one to recommend OSO advertise ADSGONE
Blocking software.
All sharing software should be installed as to NOT start
on its own. and I only recommend users of NT win2000
or XP use them , cause files in your 98 95 Me, do not have security features
make sure you run a copy of ad-aware by Lavasoft to get rid
of any files that Kazza left.

the modified version of Kazza is available and is striped of all
spy or other crap. All downloaded files from any share program
should be scanned before use.
