Help with mechanical Mercury Racing trim indicators
My starboard drive indicator stops indicating at about 3/4 up even though the drive will actually continue to trim all the way up/out. Any help? The other drive and 2 tab indicators work normally.
Again they are mechanical indicators. Thanks! |
The cable is probably bound up, how old is it?
|
I've had that happen from sand jamming the mechanism.

Sounds like a bad cable to me. Also make sure your springs did not fall off the back side of the indicator pannel (some have them, some do not), but there is a BID one (spring) in the drive so that is NOT likely but worth the look. I would replace the cables with the ones from Gaffrig if you can as they seem to last a long time and bend real nice, just make sure that they will work with your through hull fittings and what not.
How is it going by the way? New Kids all healthy I hope :D Jon |
They came with the boat, 2 years.
Where should I start, behind the indicator? Jon, the kids are almost 3 and 2. They are doing well thanks for asking. How is everything for you? Carl |
I am having the same problem with my Mercury Racing mechanical drive trim indicator. I'd like to take it apart to check for fouling or lubricate the cable; but, I'd like to have a manual to reference. Can't tell you how many times I've taken things apart only to have things either fly apart or not go back together. I can't find a parts diagram or manual anywhere. Anyone have one they can post? Boat is a 2000 Baja 25 Outlaw.
Thanks in advance. |

Thanks Griff. Do you, or anyone else, know if the cable from the drive actuator to the helm gauge can be removed from the sheath for cleaning and lubrication? I hate to think about having to replace the whole thing.
