I'm moving to Fort Myers

My wife's transfer went through to Fort Myers. She flew down for a couple of days to meet her boss and look around. She is very excited, her new boss has a common sense approach towards the business she is in and it shows with his district's annual figures. It was sort of a breath of fresh air for the wife.
She is to start permenantly February the 17th. We are making a road trip down pulling a 28' enclosed car trailer packed full of stuff on Tuesday the 11th and I'll be heading back on Saturday the 15th. I may have room for parts or something, if anyone needs something transported from Fort Myers and the Tampa area to Columbus, Ohio. As it stands now, I am picking up a 55 Chevy for a buddy in Tampa, but that leaves us with more room if anyone needs something moved.

Post here, PM, or e-mail me at [email protected] if you have something for me to pick up!:)

Brian,
Congrats. on the wife's x-fer and welcome to FL! You'll love the weather here, BUT be advised, you are moving into the county which is the heart of Manatee BATTLE right now! Check out www.standing-watch.org and see what the $MC, USFWS, FFWCC are doing there! I think a couple of OSO brothers live there, DanB, mmojo and they can probobly tell help you out with where to boat. You have to be careful in the FL. waters, there is alot of shallow water!

ChrisK 01-29-2003 08:15 PM

DANG!... Im looking at buying a bike from a fellow OSOer that lives in ohio... Figures... shoot... still looking at transport to FL for it.

TulsaLarry 01-29-2003 08:36 PM

Congrats Brian

Don't let all the hot weather get you down. I was born and raised in SoCal and when friends from the MidWest would visit they would always ask how we could stand living somewhere with only one season. I've been in Tulsa for over twenty years and am ready to go back to just one season.

BAJA WILL 01-29-2003 10:20 PM

Flyinbrian,

Come on down, it was around 78 today warmer tomarrow. Ft Myers is a fun place. Not the greatest place to pick up girls but I guess that won't be a issue for you. If you are looking at places to buy seriously consider Bonita Springs. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about this area.

Will;)

Sydwayz 01-29-2003 10:27 PM

I would really like to congratulate you, but all that comes out is four letter words. :D :D

Have fun. I have tried to leave DC for FL so many times, I lost count, but I can't get out of here.

Stillcrazy 01-30-2003 09:30 AM

I live there and it used to be a great place to BOAT. APBA pulled out after a long history of racing here dating back to the '70s. The community is boater unfriendly.Anything bad related to boating gets front page but try to get publicity for the offshore race and can't even squeak a column in the Press unless they sell adv. same with TV. We have the greatest water ways in the country but he Manatee lovers are shutting them down so get a folding chair and a picnic basket and be prpared to go to the shore and WATCH the water. With luck you will probably see a Manatee.

Allan4 01-30-2003 09:45 AM

How 'bout them apples......

Congrats, was hoping to see you on the MIghty Ohio this season......Oh well, enjoy FLA.

Luv-N-It 01-30-2003 09:57 AM

Brian congratulations!

Good deal Brian. Now all you need to do is find a job in the area too! How about a boat salesman:confused:  :D

Take care dude. Let us know when you are back in the great Buckye STATE!

Mike

The only ****ty thing is the manatee situation but thats all over FL these days. Still lots of water in the gulf...ya just need to get there :(
Have a safe move

Brian, the trip back down to Fl, there is something I need desperatley shipped to a warmer climate. It is approximatly 5' 11" inches, around 155 lb, wont take up much space. Please tell me where to give you the object.

Tommy

Flyinbrian 01-30-2003 09:38 PM

Wow!
Thanks for all of the support!
Yeah, I still need to land a job down there. I am going to stay here through March or so working at my current job. Hopefully the economy takes a turn for the better SOON!!!
Whatever. I'll collect cans on I-75 for beer and fuel money if I have to. :D
I'm looking forward to hooking up with you guys. I need someone to show me around and keep me off the sandbars, (unintentually, that is).
I am always reading on the manatee issue when it comes up. Sounds like a real pain in the ass. Although, I still see people posting pics of themselves on the water in December, so it couldn't be all that bad. Hey, at least I don't know what I am missing out on since the new restrictions. From what I keep reading, it seems like the treehuggers won't be happy until there are no powerboats on the water.

ChrisK- I may have room for the bike. I'll know for sure next week.

HyperBaja-You can sit on ChrisK's new bike, in the trailer.

mmo jo 01-31-2003 08:34 AM

What line of work are you in?

Mag27 01-31-2003 08:53 AM

Flyinbrian,
Congrats on the move. We will miss you next year at the Alum shootout!!! Let me know the details of being able to help out Chrisk about the transfer of the bike....I am the other end of the OSO chain on that one. I am trying to help him get it to the warmer state as easy and cost effective as possible. Let me know where to meet you!!!! Anyway if you can give him a hand feel free to send me a PM about the details. One other thing, I am extremely jeolous of you right now. Wish I was getting away from the white stuff. Oh well, in a couple of years I will have my graduate degree then ......... HELLO SUNSHINE!!!

Tom D,You have a problem?Explain. MEL

ChrisK 01-31-2003 03:44 PM

Well, this might just work out great!....You get to move, I get a new bike.. and I can help finance some gas and of course a dinner or something if you are around in the orlando area at that time :D . You will LOVE Florida!.. I am headed out this sunday up the river, it looks like the weather will cooperate with us and give us a GREAT day of boating!... We where looking at going to gasperilla in Tampa, but decided to just run the river instead. The "almost year round boating" you will love!

Flyinbrian 01-31-2003 05:28 PM

Aqua and ChrisK-
I sent both of you PM's.

mmo jo-
My line of work for the past eight years has been in telecommunications. I have worked for SBC/Ameritech as a Cable Locater, Lineman, Lineman crewleader, Splicer, and Engineer.

With the way the government has been changing laws and regulations in the industry, they have managed to make jobs that were once as stable as it gets, to a job that may be eliminated at any given time. Without jumping on a soapbox, I'll sum it up by saying, the way the government allowed competition into the local telephone market has been damaging to both the consumer and the companies.

I am looking into other career paths outside of telecommunications as well. The door is wide open.

BODYSHOT1 01-31-2003 07:46 PM

Brian,

Congrats & good luck!...just got back from Ft.Myers where it was in the high 70's to come back to Jersey, cold, gray, rain, snow, etc..etc...

Flyinbrian in Ft Myers

Hey Brian,
I'll be coming down to join you soon. I bought a place in south ft myers on a canal and I built a dock just before the manatee crap.

Its very nice down there and I hope you find work. This spring I'll bring my first boat down there to sit in the cradle of my lift dock and a boat I can use when I visit. No house on the lot ,just a beautiful dock!!!
Terry
