Question Looking for good surveyor in the Detroit area

Does anyone know of a good surveyor in the Detroit area? My buddy went out to look at a boat this weekend and he put a deposit on it. Since he is in CT he needs to have it surveyed before commiting to it totally. Phone numbers would be good too. Thanks in advance...

Don't know of any in particular, however below are the Michigan members of the two national surveyor associations.

Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors

National Association of Marine Surveyors

I've used Bill Novak, great guy, very thorough, obviously know what the hell he's talking about. When it comes time to buy my next boat, my list of surveyors starts and ends with him.

He can be really busy, though. Not sure that will be a problem this time of year...

Go by reputation, the guy I had a couple years ago was accredited by a few societies. He missed a bunch of stuff, lied that he checked a couple things, and was pretty clueless. I could have done a better job.

According to him I have shore power. Hmmm, I've yet to have been able to find it. I'll try to find his name.

Do not hire Marvin Surdel. He did mine and missed some obvious and important stuff.
