Doesn't it count that reggie is running a boat that weighs less and is actually a shorter boat when you talk about running surface. On flat water a smaller and lighter boat will always run faster with the same power.
|
I agree. The only way to compare Fountain with these boats is to use the 42. My buddy has a 42 Fountain w/HP 500's and it runs in the low 80's.
|
Its pretty funny how fountains are always the boats people compare to when you are talking about speed. All of these boats mentioned above are fast. It is almost impossible to say one boat is the fastest boat period. Gas, coolers, and everything else that gets packed in the boats for a weekend will slow it down from day to day. Since I get the pleasure of riding in an extremely fast 35 twin step fountain w/big power my vote is for fountain. I would be happy to own any of the above boats but still think fountain makes the fastest V hull for conditions on the Potomac River.

mmjo has a bad 39 Velocity...

sonicdriver makes sence. i dought you will ever see a ol with stock 500 hp ,so there cant be a campairson. a lot of your f2 boats the motors have been modified some,so you dont know you has done what, hustler i dont think has up dated it bottom since 97-98,there pushing the 377 now.you cant compare a race boat that at race weight 7500lbs? to a boat with a cabin . look at a 36 gladitor you cant even go up front in it. to a certian point bottom design then power to weigh ratio just like race cars. no 2 boat weigh the same.i think most of the f2 foutains are the 35,s?

how's your better half rick?....
i know that rick....that was my point as well....a lot of very good boats broke in that race...can't win a championship if your not consistant (and finish every race)....and i KNOW you understand that!LOL....kinda like the old bull and young bull looking at the heard....nice to see another racer here... your only looking forward to seeing the boat.....and not me!!???i see how you are! |
Do any of yal own any of these boats. I have ran every one exept for bad boys. And no bull ****ting around I out ran every one.390 velocity 2xhp500efis. bone stock! 8750#. Ask any one at poker runs america, Fl power boat club, opba.ext.ext. The phantom was the only one that gave me a run for my money. If it was flat he could pos. out run me. tuesday night flat water 200 gal. fuel 4 paople 2 coolers of drinks 85.5 with hydromotives done by mike at halls. The boat has run 86.6 in per. con. A race boat is a diferant beast . when was the last time you seen a 38 fast tech run 90 mph. When bad boys builds a poker run production boat give me a call Im not hard to find Tom Denofa velocity power boats poker run team. 18 this year.

Hell with a fountain you dont need all that extra length in the water because they handle and ride like there on rails. and since they didnt need all that running surface to achieve performance and handling they decided to put there lenght into styling, so they could have a boat that doesnt look like everyone else's.
Later Dave :D :D :D :D Oh yea i forgot the main reason Fountains look different is so you would know what was going by you :D :D :D :D |
Oops....I stumbled in here by accident...... "Fastest Vee bottom period"...... I thought this was a Midol commercial.
Obviously...if you really wanted to go fast.... you'd buy a Skater............... Cat. T2x:p |
when i made the comment on the Gladiators handling, it is like joe said, it is a rather unforgiving hull, and if you make a mistake in that boat, at race speeds, you are likely to get wet. Yes, it is ahrd to compare boat speeds, there are many variables. I think the donzi is a good all water boat, along with formula. but tose are race boats. i havnet been a pleasure boat in about 3 yeras, just the race boat. To tell you the truth, i kind of miss pleasure boats.

the fastest V bottom period has not been built yet
new technology yields new plateau's to reach for all of the manufacturers will never stop, never ending battle so your question is what is the fastest V bottom right NOW present model year! honestly I seriously DOUBT anyone can answer that impossible to get every manufacturer to get every V bottom out there together and run them all at the same exact time with the same exact conditions cant happen my 2 cents worth J |

..this bottom looks pretty fast to me.....
:D ..sorry, carry-on with the seriousness..... |
My vote is Outerlimits "Rock It" was by far the fastest V-hull I've seen in P class in 2000 Screaming by us in St. Pete. They even made a new class at the Worlds that year and put them in PXV Extreme.
That boat is a Rocket......It smoked many Cat's. Just my .02 |
I can't believe you guys you forgot the fastest boat ever made!!
Bayliner with twin 100's |
You NEVER onwed "Rock It".......

bad boy powerboats needs to come to APBA if they want to build ANY credibility as a 96 mph, 38 ft long, twin 500 hp powered vee hull. I have a hard time beleiving it, but i would love to see it. Until then, the numbers are just word of mouth.

Yes I owned I very nice 38 SCARAB with 502's.
I was very lucky to have an identical boat to Twisted Styx. Same everything.. Any other questions????????? |
I did see the Bad Boy boat run in New York, very fast I will give you that but I dont know how well it will turn on really tight turns on a tight race course with that much of the back end of the BOTTOM missing, the front is like a true offshore boat and the back is cut down with steps so far that I have seen bass boats with more free board, but I do have to say that the boat is fast.I do believe that you are still going to find that pound for pound with 500 hps 37 to 39 ft the Velocity will win hands down and be a very safe ride while doing it with no spin outs and throwing people out of the boat.I also agree with TX2 that if want to go really fast buy a Skater after all thats what he did.
|
My Scarab didn't have any steps it was a 96 before the AVS hull. And the free board was very high.
|
Ill be out today looking for fountains and 388s and every thing else! If its stock power I wont be beat.
|
Ya your wright! But I havent found it yet.
|
My 388 isn't stock so I can't compare my boat to others. It supposedly ran 87mph with stock HP500's.
|
STOCK POWER NOT BIG MOTORS=VELOCITY
|
105 mph, I have the other boat that apba made the px-v class in St. Pete. I had 1300's in a 34 Phantom. A short in the MSD box on the starboard motor made for a ****ty day for us. But I can tell you 128mph in a 34 footer is white knuckle ride. I never knew what prop walk was before. And I have done the Sarasota poker run before with 700's in it and never saw any Velocities up front. And I was the 3rd V-bottom to the Vinoy. It was all fast cats and an, Ol and the yellow Poker run Fountain up in front of us all day. Maybe we were already tied up at Gators when this Velocity was kicking every body elses ass that day.
|
Are you guys saying a 38' Fountain is the same size boat as my 388 Slingshot? They both have swim platforms. I'm not sure I follow you.
If I glued a yard stick coated with fiberglass to the bow of my boat, would that make it 41'????? |
Hey Jeff,
This thread was for stock power, not big motors.I am sure that your 34 Phantom with twin 1300 hps is a white knuckle ride and that not many other boats will get by you. |
just the facts...we'll see
First of all I have no problems w/ Velocities or Steve Stepp(or any boats mentioned on this thread) - but Velocities (2) star racers - Bob Bull and Scotty McCormick have just jumped ship to a Cig Gladiator in SVL Twin in APBA. I guess we'll see what mfg runs best all round in the flat and rough - BH

sorry my bad, I thought it said,"fastest V-bottom period?'
|
oops........
Me too - what the hell they're all fast - BH

35 Nordic 90 GPS w/500efi's best 90 mph value. Boat looks good drives good and lots of cabin room.
|
Here is the fastest V bottom
Viola
|
I'm sorry Bobby but I will have to disagree.
Yes, they both have swim platforms, but the Hustler has a lot more "usable" space. Have you ever been in the cabin of a 388? There is no comparison, not even close. The Fountain has at least 2-3' less space in the nose... |
does any body have or know somebody with a newer 37 outerlimits with the steps with stock 500efi or hp carbs motors and whats the speed?no race boats.
|
The Nordic DOES fly for sure! I went for a ride on one that did 91mph on a GPS with 4 of us guys in the boat with a pair of 500EFI's. This was done in the end of March where air degree temps were roughly in the 30's. I was very impressed with the speed for that kind of power, but what I am NOT impressed with is the engine pits on the Nordic and some of these boats! I wonder how you can even change spark plugs!!! A person has to almost be able to stand on his head in order to pull simple maintenance operations on some of these boats! Adaquate cabin space is nice, but really----who spends a ton of time in the cabin anyway? Personal preference I'm sure. I enjoy tinkering with my engines and the ENGINE COMPARTMENT is one of my major concerns when it comes to space. Especially when it's hot out when one needs to get at or check something within the engine compartment. I am usually NOT in the mood for a tight engine compartment to where you practically need a can opener just to pull a dipstick or perform normal routine maintenance. For example, I know of a guy who bought a 35' Nordic and wanted to install a pair of custom naturally aspirated engines in the boat and it turned out to be somewhat of a nightmare for him. Even with stock Merc engines the Nordic makes a very tight fitting engine compartment as well as some of these other boats---but they DO fly!
|
And I had a good freind with a 2002 OL and 675's and it did only 94, and those are actual speeds. my .02:)
A.T. has a fast bottom, their 37avh with 500's have seen 87-88, but I don't believe them to be the fastest, but in the rough stuff they definetly kick some ass. To me it all depends on that exact layup of that boat, and to make it fair if all the boats were the same size, and if the same driver drove each boat in the exact same conditions, that will never happen, so its very hard to say who has the fastest bottom, alot of great boats out there that are fast, its great for competion as well as sales.:D |
